Anyone concerned about the "mosquito" talk?

I've been hearing alot lately about mosquitos and Zika in Florida over the summer months. We'll be there in July/August and wondering if anyone here was really concerned. The only time I've ever been bit was on the beach watching Wishes from the Poly......
I get more bites in 30 seconds out my own front door ( just went out for about 1 minutes and have 7 bites) then I do in the last year at disney ( I had 1 bite and spent 45 to 50 days in the world last year and this year I have sent 27) so I do not worry about disney and mosquitos love me and I have never ut any thing on as fair as off or any thing like that at disney ( I am allergic to it and get sick when I use it at home)

Not especially concerned about Disney - there are a lot more mosquitos off property than on. One got in the car with me the other day when I was going to work and I had a fun time trying to kill it before it bit (I was successful). But I was at WDW a couple weeks ago and didn't see any at all. Personally, if I were pregnant or planning on trying to get pregnant, then I would ask my doctor and follow their advice. I don't see it being any more of a potential threat for the rest of us than something like West Nile, and you don't see people cancelling over that very often.

I do have some individually packaged wipes that I carry if I'm going to be in a woodsy area at dawn or dusk. I have done that for years as just a regular precaution.

Hubby and I had a trip to Mexico earlier this year. I was extremely concerned. But decided I wasn't going to live in fear and not do things because of a slight risk. Didn't see one mosquito the entire time.
Two weeks ago we were in CA for a family wedding and I ended up with viral meningitis after visiting the legoland water park. Go figure!
I'd say do what's right for your family. Take precautions. When we go in September we'll bring bug spray. The world we live in now is so scary. Things happening everyday that hurts me to the core that we as humans are living in such a violent hateful society. I don't know about you but I could use a little Disney magic in my life! (Of course I know bad things can happen there too -- but I'm not even going to go there lol.)

I have just finished reading a good deal more about Zika and how Orlando and Southern Florida are predicted future areas of concern for Zika. Orlando because of the many many tourists that visit each year from places where Zika is rampant. As the Moderator hiromyhero stated it is about people already infected with Zika visiting and being bitten by a mosquito and then that mosquito subsequently bites another person. It is no secret that Disney World has many tourists from Brazil (which is discussed often of these boards) and and other areas where there are Zika cases are in large numbers.

I am not concerned about pregnancy but I am about my child being infected however small the risk.

I personally will monitor and make a decision about our planned November trip when we get closer to the trip. I have been bitten many many times on WDW trips by mosquitos. I get bitten everywhere and Disney has been no exception.

I was at WDW in May and had a big bite on the back of my leg. Then I wasn't paying attention when I was shaving my legs and it ended up bleeding.

I just love how people panic when the new, next thing comes... I tend to look at things as odds.... and FACTs... I feel sorry for the pregnant women cancelling their trip for fear of Zika.. If I were pregnant, I would focus on protecting myself from other things.

Example: Does not accur to anyone that people DIE each year in Florida and the USA from example Legionnaires.. But do people freak out and not go in the summer, when A/Cs are running full throddle??? Where are the reports "" Danger, Summer months, warm water and cooling systems breed this dangerous disease!!!

Just an example...

Mosquitoes love me. I've been bitten up in PA when I was there over the 4th, but haven't been bit recently in FL. I do wear repellent. I am concerned about getting bit because I've ended up with cellulitis in the past from insect bites. Thoughts of Zika are there too, but I'm more concerned about getting cellulitis again and preventing that. (Triple antibiotic gets applied to any insect bites as soon as I can.)

We were there in June and bit while watching the Jungle Book show. Just a couple bites but we are fine. I didnt even worry about it, but none of us were pregnant.

I have never gotten single mosquito bite at WDW. I tend to get eaten alive everywhere else in the world but it has been a non-issue there, so I'm not worried.

Now on our Disney cruise this fall, I am slightly concerned but only enough to spray a little bug spray. We have received two warnings from Disney so far recommending that we were pants and long sleeves for the duration of the cruise. Um, yeah, that sounds fun in the Bahamas in September! But I'm sure they have to say it to cover themselves.

I understand that there are two recent Zika cases that they are trying to determine if it was locally acquired. Supposed to go next month when I will be 25 weeks pregnant. Has anyone altered their trip due to recent news? My dr says I'm good to go. How has mosquitos been so far?

I will be going in Sept and I will also be 25 weeks. The doctor said I am good to go as well. I will be wearing a mosquito bracelet just in case as I just don't want to be bitten. I am interested to know the mosquito levels as well but I have never been bitten in the last trips I have taken at the same time of year.
My doctor was more concerned with me staying hydrated and my feet a rest :tilt:

There are no known cases of someone that acquired Zika while in Florida. Every case has been someone that has traveled to a country in the Caribbean or South America

That may not be true. I'm still not worried about it myself but they are investigating two possible native infections.

We just got back from WDW and not one bite between the 4 of us. Stopped to see family in the Panhandle and all of us were eaten alive within hours. Disney must be doing something to keep the bugs away. I did see OFF for sale in the Splash Mountain gift shop, which was a first as I have never noticed them selling that before...
