Anyone carried Claritin on plane?

My DS6 has to take OTC (non-Rx) Children's Claritin everyday. He also has to have 2 diff Rx meds with us (1 he takes every day, and an inhaler for rare occasions). Our ped wrote us a note on her Rx pad saying we needed to carry on these meds, but I read on the TSA site that only Rx meds are allowed to exceed the 3 oz rule.

Has anyone tried to carry on Claritin and what was the outcome? We want to do all carry-ons due to baggage fees. I can't mail the Claritin b/c I wouldn't be guaranteed when or if it would arrive, and I hate to pay $40 in baggage fees just for it! Do they sell it at Disney? We won't be leaving Disney prop. (I don't give him the chewables b/c they contain aspartame.)

If you want to save some money, though, the adult tablets are the same dosage as the children's liquid and much cheaper - especially if you buy the generic. You can get a bottle of 180 for less than $20 at target. They're tiny and easy to swallow, even for kids. My daughter has been taking them since she was 3 or 4.

We've taken the entire bottle of Benedryl a couple of times and they never said anything. It was well over the 3 oz's.

I know that they also make a chewable form for kids. I'm sure it's a lot more expensive but at least you won't have to worry they won't let it through.

you beat me to it! the tabs are very tiny. And the sooner they learn to swallow pills the easier for everyone.

We use the children's chewable tabs. They are cheap if you buy them at Costco or a similar wholesale club.

DD10 only in the past few months has learned to swallow pills and the chewables made her gag (it's a sensory issue) so we were stuck with liquid Zyrtec. We never had any problem bringing the liquid medicine through security. Just put all liquid medicines in their own clear bag (separate from your 3-1-1 bag) and pull it out of your carry-on for TSA to see. OTC medicines are exempt from the 3-1-1 rules.

Another option would be to order all of your liquid types of items (sunscreen, OTC medicine, hairspray, cases of bottled water, milk, etc) as well as maybe some snacks and fresh fruit from a grocery service like Garden Grocer. They'll deliver the items to your resort and you won't need to worry about how much space they take up in your bags since you're trying to get away with only carry-ons.

I've taken a whole bottle of Bendryl through security before. Just make sure you have it out of your luggage (in a bag, just like you'd do for the smaller sizes).

I would try the Redi-tabs they dissovle quickly & don't taste too bad.

For travel the chewable tablets are soooo worth it. DGS uses liquid at home but we take tabs when we travel.

I didn't see Claritin when I searched Garden Grocer a few days ago. I guess I could always switch to chewables just for the trip but it sounds like we'll be fine bringing the 4 oz size liquid.

If your child is having trouble learning to swallow a pill one easy way to do it is take a small bit of ice cream like 1/3 of a spoon stick the pill in it and quickly swallow the ice cream whole. It is cold so tricks the taste buds and slippery so it slides right down. Then follow with another bite of plain ice cream

My DD & DS started taking pills like this from age 2!

but Claritin pills are 1/4 of an inch across (I just measured one) that is half the size of a tic tac for visualization.
