Anyone Cancelling their trip due to pending war?

We currently have a trip planned for May and another for October. I would have to play it by ear to find a balance between living our lives and either taking a foolish risk or being so focused on the international situation that we could not truly enjoy ourselves. Hopefully events will not force any cancellations!

Well, I'm very sorry to say, I did make a change. Our original plan was to fly and we had resv. for BWV May 13-18, I could never bring myself to actually book the air. I finally gave up this week and changed our resv. to May 11-17 (after a 2 day wait for the 11th and 12th) We are driving, I realize this is caving in to a certain extent, but when I was trying to decide what to do I would feel very uptight when I considered flying and very relaxed and peaceful when I thought about driving. My biggest fear now is telling my youngest DD, she hates being away from home and hates WDW. (I know she's a strange child I think she was switched at birth)

Hope you all aren't terribly disapointed in me.

Alice Sr. ---- hope you have a wonderful trip! Glad you're still getting to go. If it's going to be way too anxiety producing to fly, why should anyone put themselves through that. You have a choice, and it's your choice to make.

I agree with kda, if you are a nervous wreck with worry leading up to the vacation, it kind of defeats the whole purpose of the vacation.

I like to fly if we don't have much time, otherwise, I like to drive. We can set our own schedule (stay longer!), we can stop and look at sites along the way and we can also bring as much stuff as we can stuff into our vehicle (food, snacks, chips, cookies, water, sodas, blankies, pillows, dvd's--you name it) and there is always room to bring home one more souvineer!

Travel within your own comfort level and best of all, have a wonderful trip!

We're planning on leaving for VWL on Friday, but if war breaks out, we will probably have to cancel, since dh is active duty, and they will most likely cancel all leaves.

The point is you are going, it matters not how you are getting there. About that dd of yours???? Does she know how easily she could be traded in? LOL!

We are definately going in July and are planning a dream come true family reunion of sorts. We were at VWL on 9/11 and I thought we would never go back. We have been twice since and have both flown and driven.We plan to drive in July, more due to the fact that flights for 9 will be cost prohibitive.

Greetings from Canada!!!Just arrived home from WDW this morning at 2:00 AM. Although the threat of war is looming I have always been a firm believer in "seizing the day"....maybe that comes from being the wife of a law enforcement officer and former military member...I am not entirely sure... but for the sake of our mental health and the sanity of our children I think this is the perfect time to drag ourselves away from CNN and live our lives.I will continue to travel abroad and within the U.S regardless of world conditions. I've got one life to live and I plan on living it.

If someone changes their plans I think it doesn't necessarily mean "giving in to terrorism" and the last thing an individual needs in making the choice is the added concern that someone might look down on them for deciding, based on their family and the emotional and logistical situation, whether or not to take a trip.

Besides our two planned 2003 Disney vacations, we are set to leave on a vacation to the mountains on Saturday. At this point I have no plans to cancel, but that doesn't mean that I might choose to do so should the world situation be such that my family and myself would be happier ensconced at our home. On one hand terrorism shouldn't force you to cancel, but on the other forcing yourself to go to show people that you aren't "intimidated" seems to be just as wrong.

As already mentioned, let everyone make the choice within their own "comfort zone" and be supportive of that decision.

There was a photo in the Friday edition of USA Today of an empty Epcot parking lot and how attendance was definitely down.

I agree, I think non-members are more likely to just not plan a trip at all right now with the economy and terrorism/war. I used to know alot of people at work who were planning trips, now I can't think of any. As DVC'ers, we have our points sitting there to use or lose and usually have a couple years worth of trip plans in the back of our minds.

I have a trip planned in May, the only way I would not go is if the airlines shut down (I can't imagine driving for 18 hours) or there was some extreme situation. Life is to short to be afraid of everything. How often you hear of people hit and killed crossing the street. I agree though that if someone does not feel comfortable, then that's their decision and it should be respected.

We went in February just as the govt. raised the terror alert to orange. Surprisingly, I didn't really think about it as I believe that WDW is probably one of the safest places on earth. As a matter of fact, when we pulled up to the WL, there were 9 police cars full of officers and K-9 units because they had had "an incident in the baggage room".

We went to WDW 2 weeks after 9/11. I WILL NOT let terrorism rule my life. I am more aware of my surroundings than before but I was always somewhat on guard before without letting it consume me. I guess thats just the southern good ol' boy in me. Even though our next trip home isnt until Dec we wont change plans and I am currently looking for very good flight rates.

Alice I dont blame you for changing plans if this makes you feel more comfortable. At least you are still going on your trip and on with life. Part of the reason we are going against Saddam and Osama and others like them is to preserve our way of life and to make the world a better place to be.

We went in Dec. 2002, 3 months after 9/11, we are leaving in 25 days for a 15 night stay and have another trip planned for Nov. of 2003.

I will not let terrorists scare me & not let me do what I enjoy most with my family.

You never know what life has in store for you. Live & have fun today, who knows what will happen tomorrow.

As long as my money holds out, I'll be traveling several times this year. I do have a concern about my son traveling though. He's scheduled to go to Japan in April and I'm on the verge of postponing his trip. If his trip was within the US, I'd have no reservations about letting him go.

Not Us. We are leaving in 5 days (Sat). Just about the time the war will be fully underway.

We are driving, as we had planned. I figure its harder to hit a moving object.

I only wish we had a trip planned for this year. Our next is a large extended family trip next January. My mom has already asked if we will still go, if the country is at war. I told her we were planning to go unless WDW closes or we can't fly...from Seattle it would be a LONG drive.

I have to share that at our staff meeting today one of the partners passed out flyers with information about what the different colors mean..when refering to what level of alert we are at.
She followed it with saying we was going to Orlando and DC in the next week for two different conventions and wished she wasn't going to those cities. And that she definately won't be doing anything touristy while in town.

We all have to do what we feel comfortable with. I am guessing you guys will all have light crowds and will fly though lines. Have great trips.

I was just talking to my mom about our plans for later this year (she will watch our animals). She's not a Disney fan -- she and dad refuse to join us on a trip, even as our treat -- and she says she can't imagine how we're thinking of a Disney trip with war looming, that it's just "not right".

I told her that I didn't think it was "right" to put our lives on hold, but I admit, she's got me feeling a little guilty. Whaddaya think?

Amy that's too bad...we cannot allow the burdens of everyday life to consume us...that's what places such as Disney are for...that's the way Walt intended it to be...enjoy your life, enjoy your vacation and rember your a grown up...create a consequence free environment for yourself!!!What's wrong about a little escapism and "zippideedoodah" in your life more so now than ever!!!!You are privileged enough to have the Disney experience... now go on out and enjoy it and remember...No ones ever added one extra day to there lives worrying!!!Have a nice trip!!! Thank you for the kind thoughts, Denise. It is good to know that others are thinking of America tonight.
I have 2 trips to WDW planned, and as I said earlier, we went i February just when the alert level was raised to orange. I was not nervous, anad we took the kids,11 and 9. I spent quite some time living in fear after 9/11, and I think that helped contribute to my flareups of RA; I won't do that any more.
