Anyone buy the "big figures"?

For fear of sounding like my husband and I are "a little off" we leave our nine foot Christmas tree up all year round! I Know, I Know!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Last year we bought the Victorian dressed Mickey and Minnie. He is holding misletoe over her head and they are kissing. We have bent the bottom branches up on the Christmas tree and set it in that recessed area.

We have gotten a great deal of compliments on the detail of the piece.

Ours was $175. It is two pieces. The staute and the base.

The Art of Disney Store in EPCOT is where we bought ours. They tried to get us to ship it home and we said no.
We drove to the park that day and my husband told them we would carry it to the car. They finally talked us into having it sent to SSR.
THANK GOD.
The box was so huge. It was everything we could do get it from the package pick up area to the car. We were laughing so hard. Then we could barely get it in the back seat.

I would suggest having it shipped.

All of the Art of Disney stores carry them. They all may not have the same pieces, but they all carry them.

I like the idea of shipping these. We bought the Figment big fig on our March trip. We got him at the end of the day at Epcot and I asked if we needed to unbox him and check him out. I was told no, that the employees inspect each one at delivery. Well, Figgy was a graduation gift for me, so in May when I opened him, he had a nasty discolored stain on his neck and shoulders. And he was a retired figure. The folks at Disney were wonderful about allowing us to return him even though we were way out of our return date time. We did have to ship him back at our own expense (around $26), but I was sent a flawless replacement fig within two weeks. I'm very happy. If you opt not to ship the figure, make sure you inspect the one you are buying--especially if it is a gift. They periodically retire the figures and they do sell out.

This is the Figment holding a paint brush standing on the paint palette. He's really cute. Right now he is on the sofa table, but is a little large.

Hubby was a sight carrying this huge box to the car. And this figure was in one of the smaller boxes.

I am, unfortunately for my bank account  , addicted to these statues! All my life I have gravitated towards "larger-than-life" things, and these really fit the bill. I am up to about 11, but, honestly, I have paid full price for maybe 5 of them. I watch Ebay, especially DealsAtDisney, for them, and have been lucky enough to find a few on sale at WDW. Mine are currently displayed around the perimeter of my dining room. My dream is to one day have some wooden shelving built that kind of "steps up" like stairsteps. Littler ones on top, heavier ones on the bottom.

I have Beauty and The Beast as well ! I have mine on my dresser, right smack in the middle ! I also added my small B&B figurines to the display base (mrs potts, chip, etc....) I LOVE waking up and seeing them every morning ! :goodvibes

Have you ever seen any that have dates on them? I'd love to start a collection for the kids and get one for each year we go to Disney.

This year will be ds's first trip, so it would be the perfect time to start!

I LOVE these!
I have been wanting to start collecting them for years, but we just haven't had the room to display them.
That's why we had to get a new house! Just kidding...sorta. :teeth:

My plan had always been to have our builder put lighted niches all around the top of our game room just to display these.

I'm so excited, and I can't wait to start filling the spaces! I've been trying so hard to wait until the house is finished, rather than stock pile these suckers up now. It's hard...they're so cute.

My biggest problem is going to be figuring out with one to get first, I love them all!

Oh, and figuring out the size of the niches. We figured just find the largest size figure, and make all the niches that size so they would never be a problem with any future purchases fitting in the space.

Does that sound like a good plan?

The largest piece that I have ever seen is the Tourist Stitch piece that we bought from DisAuctions. OMG, the box was HUGE. I like to keep the original boxes to the pieces, but that one hit the dumpster. Stitch was moved into our new home while wrapped in a towel and seatbelted into my truck. Stitch himself is the size of a very chunky 12-15 month old.....the ears go on forever. lol The base is circular and is about 6-9 inches tall and about 2 feet or maybe a little more in diameter....and Stitch is wider than the base is. So, if you use the biggest piece principle, you are going to use a lot of space.

Why don't you spend a little time looking through the dimensions of some of the pieces on eBay and DisneyDirect.com and then figure out an average size that you think would work well. One other point, and I promise that I will shut up, most of the pieces are enjoyed best from head on or from just above. Not many of the pieces look that great when you have to look up at them. Our Thumper piece is a great example of that. You might want to stagger the niches at different levels along the walls.

Have fun planning! Maggie

I found 2 villans "Big Figures" at the Disney outlet store near Disney a couple of years ago. They were priced only $60 each. I still kick myself to this day for not buying them. I go back everytime we go to Disney to check and see if they have anymore. No luck yet!!!

Thank-you so much for the information!

I guess in my excitiment I haven't really thought all the details through. Thank goodness we're still in the planning stage!

I like the idea of having most of the spaces being the same size, and then a few larger size ones.
I'm not sure what I want to do about the location. :confused3

I didn't realize the figures didn't look good when you look up at them.
Maybe 3/4 of the way up the wall, so they don't conflict with furniture placement?

Since they're inset into the wall, there wouldn't be a problem with people knocking them off or anything??

Oh decisions..decisions! But it's FUN! :goodvibes

Kismac, We are going the same time that you are, Sept.26th - Oct. 1st. and we are going to MNSSHP for the first time on Sept. 30th. Maybe see ya there.. :rotfl: Have a great time!

We Plan On Getting Our First One During Our October Trip. We Are Going To Put A Big Mickey In Our Bedroom.

We are going to be moving in one year and I am going to be re-doing my bed room in Cinderella, I would love to have one of these big figures!

Does anyone know if they sell one of these of Cinderella? I am going to be in Disney World in 32 more days!

Thanks!

Yes they do have Cinderella. I have seen her many times at the art of disney store in downtown disney. They are in many stores.

I want these so bad- but no where to pu them!! Are they too big for a mantle? Maybe one could fit in my bookcase- I'll have to measure it. I'd love to send one home from our trip in a few weeks. I do like the idea of building some type of system to display them. We'll be building in the next year or to, I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks for the pics, guys!

I was so excited to see this thread! DH and I have looked at these on every trip, and I plan on buying the big Lilo and the big Stitch when we go again next summer. :flower: I am so glad to have read everyone's info about how to display them--we have 2 cats (1 4 lb. cat and 1 26 lb. cat) and I was a little concerned about the figurines getting knocked over. If they are really that heavy, I think they may be safe from the cats! :confused3
