Anyone book a Grand Gathering?

I'll be traveling in a group of 8, two families. I have some questions:

Has anyone booked using the "Grand Gatherings" ressie system?

If so, did you book dining reservations on your own or let a Disney cast member who is helping you with your Grand Gathering book it?

Any cost savings?

What are the pros/cons?

In October we'll be in a group of 20, most are staying onsite, DF's family offsite in a rental home.

I made all of our ADR's at the 180 day mark without Grand Gatherings, also ordered the MNSSHP tickets for everyone.

Most of the ADR's are for 6-10 of us, but 3 are for the entire lot of us, and I didn't have any trouble with Disney Dining. I did let them know we were a wedding party, and I tried to stick with restraunts that I thought would be a little more accomadating for a large group. I.E. Ohana Breakfast.

The women I spoke with was very helpful and sweet, and didn't seem put off at all by the group size, which I have to admit I was a little worried about.

I'm not sure if Grand Gatherings offers any sort of discount. It might be worth it to call and inquire.

Have booked Grand Gatherings twice now. When it came to making ADRs we called the GG # at the 180 day mark, and told them what we wanted on what day. We were able to get all the days and times we wanted. Most of them we were all at the same table or seated at two tables next to each other even for CRT. We were a party of 13 last trip and a party of 8 this one. Very easy and smooth for us so I would say it was a positive experience. THere isn't a discount for Grand Gatherings, and no extra charge. It just made it easier when it came to making ADRs and reservations. You are given a Grand Gathering # for your group. Some people do the GG b/c there are special activities made availible just for GG like cruises and special meals. But we haven't done them so I can't say whether or not. Hope this helps.
