Anyone belong to the Spirit $9 Club???

Ok, Disneyforus was kind enough to run some numbers through her membership for me....this is what she found:

9:30am-depart, arrive 12:30pm
nonstop $39
7:57pm-depart, arrive 10:33pm
nonstop $39

Air $156 ($46.48 for the air, plus $109.52 for fuel)
Bags $76 roundtrip (1 carryon, 1 checked)
Seats $40 roundtrip (the cheapest $10 seats)
Taxes & Fees $74
TOTAL: $346

If I'm right, I think it ends up at $476 + $59.99 membership fee = $535.99

The $346 was the total, FYI. If you did as others suggested, and didn't pick seats then you cn take $40 off for a Total of $306 +59.99 for membership.

It may still be more than you wanted but wanted to make sure you were comparing the correct numbers.

I suck at stuff like this! lol. Thanks for correcting me! I'm such an idiot...I stared at those numbers until I was cross-eyed!


Ok...so it IS cheaper than Delta then. Definitely cheaper than driving. It costs $100 just to fill our truck, and I'm darn sure it'd take more than 3 tanks. Plus, add the extra hotel, time, and voila!

We have flow with Spirit over 40+ times out of ACY and have only been seated apart 2 times, and both times we were a row apart and havent payed for a seat yet. We have been $9.00 members since its inseption and never had any problems with "hidden fees".
A few people on this board will "bash" Spirit everytime there name is mentioned. We have never had any problems with them, and yes we have used there customer service, in person and on the phone, and they have always been professional. A lot better than the "Big Boy" Carriers.

I wasn't trying to bash them...I'm just not good at these "low price + stuff" things...I think the idea they have is awesome.

I'm not sure of the dates you are looking for but we have not paid more then $100 RT including all taxes from Detroit in years. We usually check two bags and our carry ons fit under the seats so they are free. From their website: Fees apply for carry-on baggage that will not fit in the under seat space (max size of under seat space is 16”x14”x12”).

Our trip coming up Jan 19-25 total price for four people with two bags total is $404.24.

May 2-6, early as possible on the Monday, evening if possible on the Friday.

THANK YOU for the under-seat measurements...I think we could definitely cancel a carry-on charge then!! That cuts it even more!! And we'd only need one bag for the two of us....

Went by the Spirt counter at the airport tonight... HUGE HUGE LINE! One woman was standing there very upset. Due to weather they had cancelled her flight. The counter agents told her "you have to call we can't help you find a flight" and of course the phone was busy. She said another passenger had told her that when she called Spirit she was told "we won't be able to book you until we see how bad the storm is" I have NO idea if this is true, but it does sound like something they would do. (Wouldn't get on them if you PAID me, no way would I give them $$$)

That could happen with any airline in a storm....I could curl your hair with our Sunshine Foundation trip saga! And it wasn't even caused by a storm...it was just particular people who I assume were having a rough day. Either that, or we're "sucky employee" magnets!

Make VERY sure that one bag is UNDER 40 pounds.... VERY sure. I have a 24"
suitcase that is always around the 40 pound mark. Not an issue since I fly an airline with a 50 lb limit, but....Spirit's is 40 pounds... and that's VERY easy to get too if you go bigger then a 22"

Thanks...I will! My mom has a suitcase that I think will work very well. And with the two carry-ons, we'll be A-ok...wear one outfit, put one in the carry-on with one book each, two in the suitcase, one pair of pants each, minimal personal care stuff, and we're outta here! lol.

It would never work with the kids, but since it's just dh and I, I can do it! I can always do laundry once at Dis too, if I need to...

I just asked my Mom and she's on board for childcare...so it's a go!

If you can to do it, I HIGHLY recommend the Segway tour at Epcot. It is a a wonderful Adult Disney activity that you couldn't do if you had the kids with you. My husband says it is the best thing we have ever done at Disney. If you do the first tour in the morning you actually get to go in the park before it opens!!!
