Anyone been to Vieques Island, Puerto Rico?
I'm going there for a week in about a month?
Any recommendations?

So that's a big NO!:sad2:

Yes we have been there many times in the past 4 years since i moved here. What would you like to know?

I've been to Vieques a few times. A friend of ours owns a home in Farjardo. My husband dives so this is how we came about Vieques. How did you pick this quaint little unknown to many spot? Have you ever been to PR before? Vieques is located to the East of the mainland is is so VERY different from most of PR. It's very quiet and tranquil and beautiful. They dont get many visitors! How will you get there? We always took a private boat but they have ferrys and maybe small planes from the other islands? Our cell phones never worked there!

If you can take a ferry over to Culebra. Its worth the trip.

The best beach was Sun Bay, absolutley beautiful. The US Navy Seals had a training center there, maybe still do? If you scuba here is a sight map.

They have very little shopping but some GREAT markets as well as stands that have fresh fruits and pepper sauces. A few restaurants and rentals. I'm pretty sure some areas have been closed down that used to be open, blue beach comes to mind.
We have been horseback riding on the beach and that was so awesome. They rent bicycles also. Let me know if you have specific questions and I will ask my husband. He has been there more times than I have.

:flower3: Thanks guys.
Just want to know of any hidden must sees.

I think the navy is totally gone now.

We've got a few nice dining options already -
but any you can add would be great.

And we know we're doing the famous Bioluminescent Bay.

We visited Vieques about 9 years ago on a trip to PR. It was beautiful! Very quiet. I think there were two places to stay at that time - one was a bed and breakfast and the other place was just a couple of rooms attached to a bar/restaurant. We sunbathed at Sun Bay - it was deserted!!! Also, we took a late night cruise on Phosphorescent Bay - it was so cool to see the phosphorescent bugs glowing in the water!

The only downside that I remember was the mosquitos - they were fierce! Take your bug repellent and have fun.:thumbsup2

For dining breakfast at Mamasanga is really good, and dinner as Uva's is awesome. As for places not to miss Sun Bay beach is beautiful. As for the bio bay make sure to go when there is a new moon if possible. We also went horseback riding on the beach which was a lot of fun. I agree with the others that it is a very laid back place. Lots of snorkeling and water activites any where you look.
