Anyone been to VB for NYE??

Hi - I understand that there is a pool party with a few characters on NYE.

Can anyone tell me whether it was a good night, and if so - does the party (and character meet) run throughout the whole evening or just as it approaches midnight?

The reason I ask, is because I am looking for something special to do with our two small boys on NYE (they'll only be 3 and 6) and there is no way they will last until midnight so if the party doesn't start until late evening then it will not be worth us attending!

A couple of years ago we were at VB for New Year’s Eve as a stopover for our WDW vacation. The CMs all day urged us to get wristbands so we would be let into the pool area for the party. They also suggested getting there early. We went and it was not crowded at all. They had a DJ, party favors and a couple of characters came out to play with the kids. It was fun but not a huge party. It was on the late side when things started. I would ask at the desk to see when the characters will be out. Was it fun? Yes, but not one of those really memorable experiences. We left soon after the countdown and celebrated in our room.
