whatever way we add it up WDW is well out of our budget for next years holiday. i also quite fancy a holiday with plenty of kids clubs :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

we have found a very reasonable place in marmaris and the reviews on the web seem reasonable but ive no experience of turkey itself ( i know the locals can seem pushy but i can handle that)

can anyone help who has been ?? :)
thanks

Out of all the countries I've visited the Turks come out top for friendly accomodating people. Yes, you do get the "street" traders who appear "pushy", but that's part of the culture. A firm (not rude) "No" a couple of times usually does the trick. Their food is delicious containing many eastern influences.

However, do take a loo roll or two.

The quieter bits of Turkey are really beautiful but to be honest the touristy areas are a bit of a dump!

Have just spent the day with 3 old school friends (we think we were the class of '72 but it was so long ago we can't be sure) two of whom have been to Turkey. Both loved it and said the people couldn't do enough for them and would go again.

We got talked out of going to Turkey in 2004 by a friend who had never been (the sort who 'know' everything and doesnt shut up until your brainwashed) then he went on a day trip from Cyprus and loved it! Typical!

we have been to Turkey and loved it. It is really hot!!! the people who work in the restaurants and stand on the door trying to get you in can also be a bit pushy but you just have to say no.

We went last summer to Turkey and though we enjoyed it the locals really put off DW and she has vowed not to return :confused3 . She really didn't like the pushiness mind you I think the biggest problem was that it wasn't Disney :earsboy:

We did find at immigration this summer that they were particularly interested in that entry in our passports

I have been to Turkey as part of a couple, years ago, and didn't really like it (the days when I didn't feel confident enough to tell anyone hassling me where to go.... ;) )

Having since returned, as a family with kids both young and older, I'd say you can't beat Turkey for a holiday with children.

The locals love them and it's widely believed that a house isn't a home unless there are children in it

I've been to Marmaris which is quite big and cosmopolitan ( a bit like London with a shingly beach)
Just a mile or so down the road is Icmeler which has lovely beaches and I'd think much better for a family holiday.
Kusadasi is quite large and has nice beaches a dolmush ride away.

We tend to go to Altinkum (a small town about 40 mins from Bodrum). In comparison to Marmaris I'd say this is more like Scarborough..... :) There isn't a great deal of night life so it might not be the place to go if you have older children.

Never had any comments from immigration re the many entries in our passports :goodvibes

I wouldn't hesitate to go for a family holiday.
Just a word of warning though - the cost of living has moved more into line with the rest of the popular holiday destinations and it isn't as cheap as it used to be :flower:

Have a fantastic time :wave2:

thanks for all your comments, i think im going to book it. its a great price £1,200 for 2 weeks for 4 of us :) we want to put in a new bathroom this year so thats taken away a lot of our holiday budget :guilty:
i need something to look forward to over the winter though :sunny:

thanks again (maybe i will do a turkey trip report next summer :rotfl: )

We went to Marmaris on honeymoon in 93, it was very nice, very hot too for October.

As a lot on here have said they are very pushy I thought, to get you into shops and bars/restaurants.

But we did enjoy it, it was very cheap back in those days too, not sure about now though.

Have you thought about trying Tunisia, we went last August, 2 weeks Houda Beach Club all inclusive, 2 adults, 2 kids and and infant, 2700.00 and it is only 2 hours 20 from Bham.

Cheers

Steve

I have never been, but my other half has been and he loved it! He is quiet fussy, but said the people were very nice, beaches were great and there were good facilities most places.
