Anyone been to the Kalamazoo Air Museum?

DS lives for planes/ militarty history/ simulators...you get the picture. He turns 12 this summer and we are thinking of taking him for his birthday. We are outside of Chicago, so a bit of a drive for us...wondering if it is worth it, is it a full day outing, keeping in mind this kid spent the entire day at KSC and didn't get in near enough time for all he wanted to do/see. It looks neat on the website, but I can never tell just from that...need reviews from folks who've been
And also, in case we decided to stay over, what would be a decent hotel? Nothing fancy but a pool would be nice!

i've heard lots of raves about it from locals. as for hotels most chain ones are in area.

I live in Kalamazoo and gave my dad a gift certificate to the Air Zoo for his birthday and he loved it!! We have all the major hotel chains here with a few small bed and breakfasts in the downtown area.
