We're headed to Disney World on Friday and we're thinking about stopping by The Showcase of Citrus during our trip. From what I can tell, it's only about 15 minutes away. I e-mailed the owners and they said that Valencia oranges, Ruby red grapefruits and tangerines are in season right now. Has anyone been there to tell me about the place and if it's fun, worth it, etc?

We have been many times. Our kids are old and still like picking their own fruit. They also sell different items that are in season we got some wonderful strawberries when there once. Also please do not over look the fresh OJ. It is to die for!!!!!!
I have made fresh margaritas with there huge limes. Again very lovely I might add.

Have fun if it turns out to not be a big hit withyour group you still have the lovely fresh fruit to eat.

Love that place.....Wonderful tasting fruit and great OJ...Every time we travel to WDW we stop there.....This year we are renting a home off of RT 27 down the street from it.....I am sure that we will stop there more then once.

Thanks for the replies! I was thinking it sounded fun but wanted to get other opinions too! How does it work - do you just walk around and pick what you want and then you pay for it?

Your welcome.

I would suggest a wagon if there is one available. The ground is a bit rough pulling it but the fruit is very heavy so take turns pulling the wagon if available.

We were told what fruit was available and we went about our business.

If the strawberries are in season do yourselfs a favor and grab a big box and make some smoothies they are to die for, most of the homes have blenders if you are renting a home or condo.

Have the biggest person try to pull a pomello off the tree. It is so hysterical. They are not such good fruit but to watch some one try to do it is such fun.

The limes and lemons are the size of baby footballs. You can make some great fruit ades!

Have a great time.

Is this the place by the orange groves and the pond on 27? I've passed this many times but never thought much of it. Do you have to pick your own or do they have some already picked? Are the prices decent? I'd like to grab some on the way home since we drive taking 27.

We LOVED this place! Being from ND, my kids don't get to see many citrus groves, so it was amazing!!
We just took a wagon at the beginning and picked what we wanted (they tell you want you can/can't pick and the prices/bushel) and then pick away!! Before you start you can sample each of the fruits in season so you know what you want. They have apple pickers too, so it makes it all very easy.
We were looking forward to having the OJ too, but they were cleaning the machines that day, so we didn't get any. :sad2: Just another reason to go back next time. :thumbsup2
We were able to carry-on the fruit too, so no problems anywhere with our return. Definitely a GREAT experience!

I don't know if they have prices, but I do remember it being quite reasonable.

Thanks for posting the link doclegler. This is the place I was thinking of. I've passed this place many of times over the years since we always go 27 to Disney. I think I'll have to check it out now. I never realized it was so big or that they offered so much.

The OJ is a must try!
We liked the tangerine juice also.
Its my early morning cocktail without the alcohol. I just love it! LOL

Oh my goodness.... I would love to go here. I am thinking it would be a good place to stop right before we journey our way home up 75. Is it hard to get there from Disney?

Not far at all.
How I would go would be Osceola Parkway near AKL.
At the light before AKL take a left.
At the next light take a right onto 192 west, Irlo Bronson Mem. Highway.
At the end of 192 you will get onto 27 north it is not long just a few miles, maybe 3?
It is located a few miles up 27 north on the north side, the side of the road you are driving on.

You will love it.
Try the OJ it's the bomb.
