Interested to know if anyone has been here. Husband suddenly got passionate about golf and considering it for a summer break next year! Would love to hear from anyone who has stayed there....what accommodation, food, facilities and surrounding area are like! Many thanks

Haven't been, but my friend has. Her DH won a Lexus Golf competition and both of them got 5 days out there all expenses paid, my friend was asked would she like to swim/sail/golf etc., and she picked golf. The group was brought around a few holes by Colin Montgomerie who gave a few tips along the way (she's the only person I know who has been taught to repair pitchmarks by a real professional), and he was apparently really nice and made them all feel so comfortable. He posed with my friend and her DH for photos with no problem whatsoever.
My friend couldn't fault anything. Surroundings, views, food, weather, you name it, it was fabulous!

Haven't been myself but a friend of mine has a villa out there and loves it. Her parents even flew the pianist at the club there over here to play at her wedding reception as a surprise and he was great !

The Leicester City football players like it - in fact a couple of them stayed for an extra week ;)

Well that all sounds promising so far! Does anyone know how expensive it is once you get there for food etc? Which is the nicest part to stay in? Do you need a car?!
Thanks
Debsx

PS. Your wedding photos are AMAZING!!!!!!!

Just got back from two weeks in La Manga went last year as well,
To eat there is expensive(well equal to Uk prices) Victors is great. but village just outside called Los Belones has brill Italian and very cheap.
Don't need car whilst on complex as they provide transport- don't think on the lines of Disney- we're talking minibuses here but it works OK.
We hire a car as its so cheap and nice to go out. Avoid heading to La Manga strip as traffic is chaos, go towards Cartegena etc instead (lovely shops and cheaper than Uk)
Fly into Murcia rather than Alicante its a doddle from there.
Where were you thinking of staying. Try and avoid Bellaluze if you want it a bit quieter (lots of families with young children).
Hope this helps

We went last year. We have young children so we stayed in a very nice 3-bed Hyatt Grande Cypress appartment rather than the hotel. Villa hire would have been 2nd option.
Accommodation was very good but dining out is expensive as mentioned above and choice in the resort is limited.

The appartments themselves are part Hyatt, part TimeShare (Peninsular Club).

IMHO you would definitely need a car.

Child care arrangements (for the whole resort - not just the appartments) were good but expensive.

Sports facilities are very good (world class). Golf and soccer shools esp.

Beach is very poor - pebbly and over crowded.

I receive regular e-mails re La Manga and will post the details later when I find one.

Overall we though La Manga was good, albeit very British - you will not see much of the real Spain there.

We also holiday in Marbella most years (we have a Marriott timeshare there) and whilst La Manga is good, I would rate Marbella (particularly the Marriott Marbella Resort) far higher.
More to do. Better Beaches. Access to more Golf courses. More restaurant choice. More choice of flights to Malaga etc.

Out of interest, La Manga is owned by P&O the British company, which recently announced it has put it on the market for offers over £100m (in case anyone reading this thread is feeling flush!).

Thanks for all your responses! We have booked to stay in a 2 bed villa with pool at Las Hiugeras (or something similar!!), so I'm hoping that we'll have a good time! We have hired a care for the 2 weeks and hubby has booked lots of golf, so all I have to do now is book some spa treatments!!!!!!! Have any of you tried the spa? Do they have a supermarkert on site for self catering guests, or where would I find the nearest one? I think we will do a mix of our own cooking and then eat out too to minimise the expense!!

Is there a better beach than theirs near by?

Sandy beaches at mar Menor which is 5 to 10 mins away. water is shallow and calm and they have nets to keep out most of the unwanted guests. Don't be put of by the approaching streets as there is a lot of building going on. There are a few cafes nearby and they are happy for you to use their toilets etc as there are no public ones near. Cafes are very spanish and cheap. (Drinks are 75% cheaper than La Manga) Avoid at weekends as the beaches get packed but rest of time mainly deserted.
We actually liked La Manga Beach although it is stoney. It is small but only open to La Manga residents so not very busy.
Supermarkets are on site- Use big one near Asia Restaurant as this is lovely and clean.
Don't buy water at Tennis club- its twice the price of supermarkets.
Be warned Golf takes a long while as they pair you up with another couple and it took my husband and his friend over 5 hours in very hot temps. It left them shattered the next day.
Tennis is great and the coaches are brill whatever your standard.
Entertainment arranged is good fun but be warned children have to be out of hotel by midnight and yet it only gets going at about 10-10.30 so my Daughter 13 was a bit upset. Other 2 are 20 and 21 but they preferred hotel club Spikes to the Disco
Hope all this helps

A website with details on the properties and offers etc is www.lamanga.com

We booked (accomm only) through them when we went and got a better deal than booking direct through Hyatt.

Once on their e-mail list they will send you frequent details of special offers/last minute bookings.

Depending on when you go the heat can make the golf unpleasant ("Mad Dogs and Englishmen" etc.).

Have a great time.

Anyone else got any hints and tips as we are off in 6 weeks time! Places to eat, anywhere to avoid, things to see etc!!

Hi Debs,

As already mentioned, all the restaurants on site are expensive however, there is a good Chinese (eat in and takeaways) "Mr. Chan's" in the Los Lomas Appartments area. Also there is an Italian, "Luigi's" which gets good reports but the Italian in Los Belones is very good and much cheaper (you can always get a taxi if you want to have a few drinks, they are not expensive).

I agree that La Manga Strip is not worth bothering with but the small harbour at the start of the Strip, Cabo de Palos has some good fish restaurants and in the summer months often has open air concerts to enjoy.

We have not been to the Tennis Centre Barbecue but have heard such good reports about it that we plan to book for both Wednesdays during our August stay but I am not sure if it will be on when you are there or if it is a high season event.

The shops in Cartagena are very good especially El Corte Englaise (sp?), a huge department store. The port area here also has good restaurants with more of a Spanish feel to them.

Regarding the golf courses the South Course is very long and flat with a lot of water, the West Course is beautiful it winds up through the hills (take a buggy) and is a very tight course in places with lots of ravines and trees. The North Course also has ravines and water but is not as long as the South. The only thing about the North is that you tee off in front of the Hyatt Regency pool and main hotel building so you always have an audience which is a little daunting!! The 18th Green is also right in front of the pool and attracts onlookers.

Can't wait to go in August (9th visit). Enjoy your holiday.

Ok, only four weeks to go until we're off...............so need some last minute hints and tips!!

1) Which restaurants on site are 'not to be missed'?
2) Anywhere you would suggest for a day trip.......we have 4 yr old boy!!
3) Spa treatments.......any 'must dos' and how far in advance do we need to book?

Anyone know what the weather is like there at the moment?!

One final question..........we are staying in a villa with a splash pool, but the part of the complex we are in does not have a central pool for the area......are we able to go to a proper pool at one of the other areas?!!
