Just wanting to know about the new construction. Is there anything new since last summer? Thanks!

At Cypress Pointe Resort the only construction is on the old sales trailer land (new recreation area - tennis, basketball and shuffleboard courts along with a new gazebo, picnic area and gas grills) which is underway. That is locatedin front of the Clubhouse and nearest to Building 8. Construction is expected to last 14-18 weeks or mid-summer. Also underway is a small storefront change to the old pizza / snack bar facing the Volcano pool at the Clubhouse as it changes to a coffee house/cafe. About the same time frame.

Over at Cypress Pointe Grande Villas construction is expected to start this month on a new laundry/maintenance building and a new tennis court. The new building will be where the current tennis/basketball courts are behind building D. The new tennis court - I'm not sure if they plan to replace the basketball court - will be located at the entrance driveway where there is some green space, horse shoes and a couple picnic tables now. How quickly the building will be going up is anyones guess but the new tennis court is scheduled to begin in a week or two.

None of the recreation stuff is major construction although the new laundry building may be on par with the construction of the similar building at CPR. That took over a year and was major construction work.

So the gas grill area will not be ready for the week of May 5th? I was so hoping it would be ready for use while we are there.

No, unfortunately the project that started the first week of January has basically been on hold due to ongoing permitting issues. Every time things start to move forward another roadblock occurs. The most recent, a wetlands permit, is supposedly in place so work can resume but as of yesterday afternoon it was still a large pile of dirt with survey markers - no construction activity. It is frustrating everyone involved but things have to be done correctly or other problems occur. It will get done but not by May.

In better news the long delayed (from December 2006) renovation and change to upscale coffeehouse/cafe of the old pizza/snack shack at the Clubhouse received it's construction permit yesterday. The contractor has been ready to start for months so hopefully that project will now get underway and be completed soon. Another case of an unbelievable amount of paper work and time required to offer an improvement to owners and guests.

Yes. There are one or two to be found at CPR and 4 in the center courtyard near the Recreation Center at CPGV.

thanks :)

Looking forward to our stay there next week ~ any tips for a good building or area to request at check-in?

Depends on what you enjoy as each building in Phase 1 has a different "feel" The #1 requested is building 4 as it has the 6 units that directly overlook the Volcano pool. We like that one but it can get a bit noisy. Short ways from the Clubhouse.

The second most requested wold be Buildings 1 & 2. They have 12 units that face the pond & fountains. Very nice view, relaxing to hear those fountains & see the wildlife.

Building 8 has the "forever wild" area behind it. If you like old Florida that is the closest you'll find on property.

After that is Building 6 which has a good view of the pool - that always surprises me how nice it is - but it's viewed over the parking lot. Much better than it sounds, really.

Buildings 3, 5 & 7 have no real view - they have "backyard" settings. Remember that half of all units except for Building 4 (the non-pool side faces Building 3) face the parking lots but due to the landscaping thats not a bad thing. Plus it means you can usually park close to your unit.

So make a couple choices and they will do their best to get you into one you prefer.

Sorry to bother but could you please tell where at CPR they are located? We are trying to decide if we want to grill hamburgers one night or not. I don't want to walk across the street to CPGV. Thanks!

Last time I looked (and it was in late 2007) there was one behind Building 8 and one or two behind Building 7. All the others had been removed (rusted out) to be replaced (soon I hope) with the gas grills.

We're staying in Phase 2 - this description is about Phase 1, yes?

Correct. In Phase 2 1/2 of all the units face the courtyard - the other half face the parking lots. The only real differences are if you are close to one of the pools or the mini-golf - no big differences as there are in Phase 1.

thanks :)

Please post a report of your stay when you return. We are booked to stay in Feb 2009 and I'm curious. We have stayed at other Suntarra resorts and have been very pleased. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts.

Wishing you a magical trip.

Where are the Cypress Point Equestrian horseback riding stables located? Do they feel like part of the resort? My daughter is a horseback riding fanatic and we are considerng visiting, staying or a tour. Thanks.

We're back! We spent 3 nights at the Cypress Pointe Grandvillas in a 2 BR unit. We were in the Parrot Cay building, with a parking lot view. Very convenient to the pool area. The unit itself looked a little tired and dated. It wasn't terrible, and certainly didn't ruin our trip ... but we did notice a difference between Cypress Pointe and some of the other WDW area timeshare properties. The biggest difference is the kitchen. Vistana Villages and Silver Lake-Silver Points have granite countertops, higher end appliances and cookware, etc. CP has formica counters, midlevel appliances, etc.

With that said, we would definitely stay there again... especially for the price. It's a great value for the money.

We timed our commute to the parks. Epcot was the shortest drive, the MK was the longest. it took us about 30 minutes to get from CP to the parking lot at the TTC, plus however long it took us to get to the gates of the Magic Kingdom. No more than 45 minutes, and certainly less than the HOUR it took using WDW buses to get to the Dolphin on Friday. :headache:

I'll be sure to take pictures and give you a thorough report when we return. We stayed in the CP across the drive in 2005 and it was very nice. This will be our first time in the Villas.
