Anyone been to a DVC resort for a hurricane??

But I did weather a cat one typhoon just south of Quang Tri in the fall of 1969. In a tent. Can I have my camo Mickey Ears embroidered "Hurricane Survivor" for that one?

We are checking in on Friday (DH thought it was Thurs) at SSR.

Dh and I were at SSR for Jeanne.

We laugh now, but at the time, I was nervous and made him help me push the sofa sleeper in front of the sliders! Im a Northern Girl!

Most of the trees blew over (newly planted). They played continous movies on 3 channels and provided constant (and i do mean constant) updates by phone, tv, and memo. I was really impressed and we never lost power and felt really secure. I also thought it was a nice touch that they had the characters in the lobby.

Right after the storm, we drove offsite and it was a different story, power was lost, the traffic signals were malfunctioning and there were some really bad accidents caused by it. So even if WDW appears to be functioning, doesnt mean it's ok to venture out. We quickly returned to SSR.

Here's another Hurricane tip, if you have to be holed up with your Dh for 24 hours during a hurricane, don't let him pick Rotel, nacho cheese and refried beans for his Hurricane supplies!

We were at WLV last October when Hurricane Wilma came through. It did not ruin our vacation. WDW opened up Artist Point and had a special Hurricane breakfast buffett which was delicious! The lobby was packed and they had characters and activities for kids. The parks opened up to resort guests only at 2 or 3 that afternoon and it was nice to have light crowds. The Food and Wine booths were not opened and some of the tastings were canceled for one day, but other than that it was not bad.

We stayed at the GF 9-2003 and a hurricane/TS passed over in the night. The parks were opened the next morning. Crews were cleaning up debris around the parks.

We were at the Wilderness Lodge for Charlie. WDW closed all of the parks as of 4PM. Transportation was shut down. By 6PM all guests were confined to their rooms. There were cast members randomly patroling the hall ways enforcing this. WDW communicated with guests via the phone message system. Power stayed on throughout the storm. Many guests had issues with having no dinner as the restaurants closed and we had to stay in our rooms. We had been among the last guests to get our dinner at roaring forks and had to take it to our room to eat. Disney had 2 channels on TV devoted to childrens programing. We watched the local TV to get storm coverage. Disney cast members came to our room with a flashlight for"just in case". Overall WDW was fantastic. We felt safe and up to date. Having water and snacks in the room was a good thing we were glad that we planned ahead!

Ditto for us; we were in the villas. I think I was the last person in the gift shop and bought several frozen pizzas for dinner. Even though WDW is inland, based on all the damage at MCO, Charley was still packing quite a punch as it blew through.

But life began just up the street from the old Schmidt's Brewery, at Fourth & Girad (local pronunciation) . Moved from there to the Castor & Cottman area. Last move was to Somerton, just below Busleton & Byberry.

Moved to OC in 1975.

DW's family rooted in South Philly. Don't ask me where, being from the Northeast, areas west of Broad and south of Chestnut are like a foreign country to me.

While we weren't technically at WDW when Charlie hit, we were on our way down there... We stopped for the night in Chatanooga, TN.. I got up early in the morning and turned on CNN and saw the damage in Punta Gorda... After seeing some overhead pics of MCO, I decided to book a 2nd night where we were staying...

After spending a full (unexpected) day in Chatanooga, we then left the following morning for Pop Century.. Actually, we had booked the ASM but apparently the operator at CRO got her wires crossed.. Pop Century was actually in pretty good shape... A few young trees down, but that's about it... When I checked into PopCent, I realized that several locals were taking refuge at WDW.. WDW had power back up several days before other parts of Orlando.

The next day we xfered over to Fort Wilderness for our stay in a cabin... FW was actually hit VERY hard... The campground took two days to recover and reopen.. There were debris piles everywhere from trees that had fallen.. Apparently, Disney had everyone park their campers in the parking lot, and then put all of the campers up in the Garden Wing of the Contemporary. Many of the campers we talked to describes similar situations to those others have talked about... Disney provided activities to keep every entertained...

I felt sorry for the CM's... Several of the ones I spoke with had home damage and you could tell they would rather be at home, but were required to come to work..

You got out a long time ago. I'm born & raised south philly. Can't leave. My father was stationed @ 4th & Girard in the 70's. Small world.
