Has anyone been paid to make a scrapbook?
How did you price it?
How many pages?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

No, not even close, I'm just starting out. But I did notice on Mousememories.com that they make custom books for clients and the prices are very high:

here they are:

50-75 Photos $649.00
76-99 Photos $709.00
100-130 Photos $789.00
131-160 Photos $859.00
161-190 Photos $929.00
191-220 Photos $1009.00
221-250 Photos $1079.00
251-280 Photos $1149.00

Those prices are very reasonable, if you put a fair value on your time, and include a fair price for use of the tools, machines, etc that you already one. Remember you have to design, shop for, as well as arrange pages and paste the stuff down. You may have to interview the person and arrange the photos in order, get enlargements made, etc. You have cardstock, patterned paper, adhesive, embellishments, the use of your tools and cutter etc. If you are running a business, all those things need to be taken into account. Materials alone are going to be 5 - 10$ per page, depending what you do.

I just made a 12 x 12 80th birthday album with 30 sides. I spent ~10 hours interviewing, several hours planning the scheme, I had to buy design software for my cricut in order to execute the title page I had in mind. I had photos reprinted (photoshop time, scanning time, upload to snapfish, order, drive across town to pick them up time) 2 x refills, 2 atg refills, 90 sheets of cardstock/patterned paper, a nice leather covered album, extra page protectors, etc etc.

Probably $150-170 total materials. 60-70 hours of total time.

Until you stop to evaluate what you actually use, you don't realize what you've spent. If I was selling that Album, it would be $900, and that would be very reasonable. $900-$160 for materials = 740/70 hrs labor = ~10.60/hr.

I never intended to imply that the mouse memories prices were unfair.....I don't doubt the hours and expenditure involved in creating the album, I just think that it sounds so expensive when you hear the price (before you analyze why it's priced that way.) I mean, if you think about, if it was a Disney memory album, it would cost half of what the vacation did

I didn't mean to diminish the amount of work involved with creating an album, it's just that when you think about what it actually costs, to have one made (including labor) it is probably very "steep" for the average person's budget.

I was paid $300 to do a book a couple years ago. It ended up being 60 pages! :faint: I think I would have negotiated a per page price, had I known the person was going to show up with as many MORE photos the second time. She also paid for any crops I went to where I worked on it, and supplies. I don't know how many actual hours I put into it, but it was a lot of work. I'm not sure I would do it again, if asked, but $300 would be really nice right now ;)

Okay how about I ask this question (firstly thank you for everyone that aleady responded:) , how much should I charge someone per page? How much would you charge per page if someone asked you?

It would depend a bit on a few things-

1. Are they paying for supplies in addition to the page (the charge is different if supplies come out of it)?
2. How fancy do they want it (every photo mat and journal box embellished, paper piecings on every page or simple mats and jolee emebellishment)?
3. How much time will each page take you?
4. What kind of supplies are you using- Bazzil cardstock is more expensive than other and they take more of a tole on tools.

If I were doing a scrapbook for someone, I would probably be cutting out or making a file for each topper- that alone gives me about half an hour per page. I would probably be making one decorative element per page (another 1/2 hour/page) and then using fairly simple mats - double matted with ribbon or a flower, ect.- annother 1/2 hour for creating) and then 1/2 an hour for assembly. That means at minimum it would take me 2 hours per layout (double page). I would charge $10 per page without supplies giving me around $10 an hour. Suppliesa are another ballpark all together- for decent cardstock and embellishments I would either charge $5 per page for supplies or give them actual reciepts for them to pay for the supplies needed. I would expect them to get their own album.

I did one for a friend. It was a 12 x 12 with only 20 pages, I charged $10 a LO with all the embellishments & supplies since I have so much that I really didn't have to go out and buy anything. A few of the LOs were double pages so I only charged her $10 and also she supplied some of the embellishments. It was for her DH's 40th birthday party.

Another scrapper I know charges $10 per page not LO and embellishment and PP are additional.

Right not I'm working on a few Cheer chipboard albums for my DDs cheer competition squad and I'm charging $20 that includes most of the emblishments and some photos. I'll post one of them as soon as I can figure out how to do it on this board :confused3

I think those prices are very reasonable, given the expensive cost of all of the supplies involved and time invested. I make scrapbooks for my photo clients and the price of the adhesive alone is insane! I have an ATG gun in TWO sizes and still go through so many rolls. The company that I work for sells them and so I get a huge discount... even still... SO EXPENSIVE!
