Anyone Been on Mission Space Lately

Trying to talk DD into riding on Mission Space. She is not too keen on it as she thinks she will get sick. Can any recent riders tell me if this is still happening?

The problems on M:S were never as bad as reported by the media and some on here. I have ridden the ride over twenty times and have never seen anyone on the ride or after get sick. While some people do get sick, there are people who get sick on Dumbo as well. The ride has not been changed in any way since it opened so it is not a matter of "still happening." I think the biggest problem with M:S is that people can't see it the was they can the teacups for example, and therefore some people who should not be on it ride it anyway not knowing what to expect.

Ive ridden once (this past July) and was fine, but the girl in the capsule with us got sick. That makes me not to thrilled about going on again. Peter can I go on with you? You seem to have a lot better luck than I do.

While I personally did not get sick, I found it to be extremely nauseating. I will never ride it again. I don't consider myself to be a person who has a problem with motion sickness either. I find it interesting that as you are leaving the Mission Space ride and walking down that hallway, there is a garbage can with an open top every few feet. I did also see someone vomiting outside Mission Space in February. I think it's the most intense ride I've ever been on...about 20 times more intense than say Space Mountain or Tower of Terror.

Ditto to the last post - I didn't get sick, but was very nauseous. I have never gotten sick on a ride....including ToT and RnR...these didn't bother me at all. Mission Space is the only ride in my entire life that has made me feel ill. I was literally queasy for a couple of hours afterwards. I had to sit down immediately after getting off, then made it to the Land for food...sipped a coke to calm my tummy. We kinda took it slow for awhile and it went away. I think if they didn't pump the cold air into the pod straight into your face, I might have literally gotten sick. I'm very glad I did it, and if your daughter doesn't normally get sick on rides, she may luck out and just feel queasy like me. It's worth doing once just to say you did....put it to her that way. She will be very proud of herself for making it through and then never has to do it again!!

My cousin who rides EVERYTHING said she was glad that she did it once but would never do it again. She just didn't feel right for quite a while after.
He son who is 20 also was not that thrilled and had someone with him that got sick right afterwards.

I have not tried it since I do not want to risk not feeling well and that happens to me on a few of the rides.

Our family rode it for the first time in January - me, DH, DS7 and DD7. I was a little worried because I have a lot of inner ear problems but it was fine; a fun ride. DH and the kids later rode again but I decided to have a hot coffee outside by myself for a little break instead. I wouldn't hesitate to ride again, though. I didn't see anyone getting sick nor did DH.

other than the fact i thought i was having a heart attack on it. The g forces are incredible on it, i really enjoyed it. Cant wait to do it again.

I don't agree that people who get sick on Mission Space also get sick on Dumbo. My husband rides all thrill rides with no problem except for Star Tours and Mission Space. While he does ride Star Tours all the time it can at times make him feel a little weird. Mission Space he rode once and did not get sick but felt like if the ride had been a few seconds longer he would have been close. Simulator rides and spinning (MP is both) rides can affect people who can ride rollercoasters and go upside down no problem. If you have problems with those types of rides I would maybe skip or keep the barf bag handy. Unfortunately you don't know until your ride it and it may be too late. It is a great ride however if you can handle it!

This is the only ride I ever got sick on! It made me sick and dizzy for a couple hours after. Never again!

Well this little mouse went on it once . . . NEVER AGAIN! The ride was held up because someone got sick on it right before we got on. Once our ride started, I was nauseous and did everything I could to not repeat what happened to the person on the ride before us. Luckily I did not get sick, but I did vow that I could say, "I rode it once". . . and that was enough!

I agree with you. I can ride coasters, but not simulators. There's something about the simulator movement and the big movie screens that make me nauseous.

I skipped M:S, but dh, who doesn't get motion sickness at all, was feeling queasy by the end of the ride. The 3 kids were fine.

I've ridden M:S about 10 times and never felt sick at all and never seen anyone else get sick. I don't think the ride is thrilling or intense at all- its more like "wow that's cool". I think TOT is more intense IMO. I think a lot of people get hyped up seeing all the signs leading to the ride- the mind is a powerful thing. If you are nervous and certain that you will get sick- you probably will. -Stephanie

I have read (here) that M:S seems to effect adults more so than kids. I think adults are more apt to get themselves worked up before the ride.
Also from what I read, M:S effects the inner ear, rather than the stomach. But the inner ear triggers the stomach problems for some.

DH has been on M:S a few times within the last month. Not long after he ate breakfast. I think that time was making him even feel uneasy. He thought M:S was souped up a little more than when we first rode it shortly after opening.

I have not beem on it since. I probably will some day. It's just one of those rides that don't do a lot for me. I was glad I did it. But not in any hurry to do it again. (And I did not get sick.)

More than the motion, I was surprised at how claustropobic I felt. And I did not think I was. I certainly did not go into a panic attack. I was just not expecting such a tight area.

I think anyone going on does have to be in overall good health, without head colds, etc.

Good for you. It made me very sick and the dizziness lasted for hours. By the way, I don't get sick on Dumbo or Teacups!

I rode it for the first time in February. I did not get sick. I am too afraid to ride theme park roller coasters, but I can do Tower of Terror and Aerosmith fine. I went because I didn't want my son to have to go on alone. I followed the instructions perfectly, which are to look at the screen. Do not close your eyes, and do not turn your head to the left or right. The screen makes it seem like you are taking off and coincides with the negative g force or whatever they call it. After I got off the ride, I asked my son how they made you feel like you were stuck to the seat and he said spinning. I would never have guessed it.

MS is the only ride at WDW that I won't ever go on again. I didn't actually get sick, but felt queasy for a few hours afterwards. I suggest people give it a try, but you won't see me there.

Hey Peter !

On our trip to WDW about a month ago, a bus driver told several us sitting in the front on his bus that M:S has adjusted its Gs from 4 to 2 1/2 because of the some nausea and sickness issues that guests experienced with it. He explained that he was one of several cast members who rode on it prior to opening and that even Gary Sinise (capcom on M:S) himself felt a bit sick after the ride !

DH and I could tell that it was toned down prior to the bus driver's information, and in DH's assessment, a lot (to him). We both still enjoyed the ride, but we could tell it was different.

I love roller coasters, simulators, anything for a thrill, BUT Mission Space is a ride I will never go on again. While you are on it the ride itself is cool. I liked it until I got out of the capsule & was immiedately dizzy & nauseous
It gave me a headache for the rest of the day. I would never go back again.
