Hey, Is their anyone out there who has been a DVC Member since Day One or shortly after the program began; I think in 91 or 92????

If so, what was the price per point at that time? I know it was for a contract with Old Key West at that time.

Just curious AND VERY ENVIOUS!!!!!!!

Well-not "day one" but pretty close. In Sept. '92 the points were $52.00 (or nearabouts)

We have friends who bought in very early in the program at $52 per point plus the free tickets til 2000. They told us the other day they have made at least 50 trips.

We also met these 2 ladies, on a bus from MK to OKW, who I guess were in their late 60s early 70s. They were sisters and told us their dad was the second contract to buy into the original DVC or OKW as its called now. Funny little side story to it......they said that their father used to have them up at the crack of dawn and on the 1st bus of the morning to whatever park they were going to. And they always helped to close the place down every night. And he did this up into his 80s until he passed away. They said that as much as they miss their father being gone, they dont miss the commando touring.

It was just neat meeting them as they helped to create history for those of us who enjoy DVC so much now as we will continue so in the future.

We bought in June, 1992 for $52.00 per point. An added incentive at the time were passes included with each stay "through the end of the Century," as Disney so cleverly marketed them. We feel fortunate to have purchased when we did and definitely have gotten our value out of DVC.

Is there another way to do the parks!!!

We bought in March of 92, and had to buy 230 I believe as the minimum.

What my wife (then girlfriend) and I remember vividly, however, was the guide telling us that although the passes expired at the end of the century, the free passes would most likely be renewed. I seem to remember others being given the same impression. Regardless, we have not one day regretted our decision to buy, and have added on quite a few times.

We were pretty close to day one, only reason we weren't was we bought through the mail. Due to circumstances we were not able to go down in person. I think we paid $49 or $50 per point in 1991 and you had to buy 230 points. We were told we were one of the first 10 people to buy though the mail. I couldn't get my legs to move fast enough to mail those papers out!!!

We were lucky and able to purchase in November or December of 1991. I can not recall the cost per point, I think somewhere between $48 and $50. Minimum purchase was 230. Passes till 2000. AK was not included when it opened. DVC was the best purchase we have ever made.

Back in either '92 or '93, my wife, Judy sold the very first Resale for DVC. It only took 6 months to close. Back then, NOBODY, including Disney knew how to process it. So, working very carefully with buyer, seller, Title Company, and Disney the deed was done. The purchaser saved $2,500 on the sale. The seller lived in Canada, got paid in US Dollars. At that time, the US Dollar was far stronger than the Canadian dollar, so everyone walked away a HAPPY CAMPER!!!!

Have we come a long way or what?

And now we're begging for a little off on a pass.

Have you posted this info on the ROFR thread? That might make them feel a little better about their current wait. :teeth:

FYI - Thanks for your posts. They have provided some great insight on these boards!

still not an owner but I still have all the info from when it first came out. I was a sophmore or junior in high school then...LOL!!

My aunt is a fellow DVCer. She and her DH purchased way in the beginning (probably not the first though). My UIL told me they purchased their points at a pre-sale price of around $48 per point. They have 600+ points. He said it was a no brainer especially with the free passes in the beginning.

He was also the one to advise me that from a financial point of view, it was always better to be borrowing than banking - time value of money (point value) and what not - and you would never have the danger of missing banking deadlines and expiring points.

I remember touring the just finished first buildings and thinking they were so beautifully constructed! But then, I was against time share...even DIsney time share, tho I remember telling the guy who toured us that if I ever bought a timeshare...it would be DIsney.

Fast forward 15 years and YEP....bought BWV, altho I would have bought OKW had a small enough contract come through.

Should I have bought then? Well, I was stick enamoured of the Poly where I got engaged...so that is a tuff call! And I think we could still buy day passes to the parks for about $15 (5 days for $75), so the free passes wouldn't have pursuaded me THEN.

Sigh.

But I'm a DVCer now and would be happy if only someone would send me an OKW pin, which is the only one I'm missing from my collection (I bought a Vero today on EBAY) HINT HINT

It would be neat to see the literature.

ANy chance on you scannign it and posting it for all to see?

We visited in Jan '92 and put down the deposit. For whatever reason the closing didn't happen until April/May. I was looking through some paperwork the other day and ran across the original contract. 230 points for $11,730, $51. pp. The contact lists an ownership interest in bldg. 15 and our contract number was in the 1380's. So almost 1400 owners in the first six months or so. I agree it has to be the best thing we ever bought.

We too visited in late '92. Stayed at the CR where they had placed DVC info in the rooms. Brought it home, kept thinking how we should join, had the information for years (don't know where it is now). At that time we were expecting our 2nd child, just finishing a major home addition, and put in a pool - and never signed the dotted line. Well, until a few years later that is. Yes, that low $50 price and free tix looks great today. Can't help but wonder how fast DVC would hit that 100,000 member mark if free tix was once again offered.

Well, it's not our contract, as DH and I were only 20 at the time, but my in-laws came home from a February '92 trip with 230 points and ressies for us to go during Spring Break! What a great surprise.

We bought as soon as we possibly could -- 150 points in April 1999 -- 5 months after our wedding. With Disney buying back half the first year's points and a CM discount, I think we paid $59 per point. It's the BEST thing we ever did!!!

We signed our original contract of 232 points in late June of '92, but our member card says members since August 1992.
