Hello! I'm Andrea. I'm fairly new to the college boards, as I haven't really had much need to visit them frequently in the past.

I'm transferring to Auburn University in the fall for my bachelor's in Hotel and Restaurant Management. After my last semester (should be Summer/Fall 2013), I plan on doing the Disney College Program and then hopefully following that up with a Professional Internship. My boyfriend (since 2004) will be moving down with me and since we should be finishing school at the same time, he's planning on doing the CP and applying for a PI as well. It's a long way off, but I am so ridiculously excited about everything! I'll just spend my time reading everyone else's blogs in the meantime :goodvibes

I was just wondering if any of you go to Auburn? It would be nice to know a few people (especially Disney fans!) before I move down there this summer!

War Eagle!
I go to auburn currently but I will be graduating this May. I am a hotel restaurant management major, you will love program! I can give you tips on the professors here if you want. I did a cp in fall 09 as an attractions hostess at Big Thunder. My fiance and I did our program together he was also attractions, he is a mechanical engineering major also graduating in may. We are both currently trying for PIs, fingers crossed.

Awesome! I'm so happy to hear from a HRMT student, and especially to hear positive feedback on the program! I would love some advice on professors, courses, etc. Anything, really! Have you taken any of the event planning classes? I plan on taking those for all of my elective credits, because I'm hoping to apply for the event/wedding planning PIs after the CP.

My boyfriend (might as well be fiance, but it's not "official" since I don't have a ring :lmao:) is an art major. He's hoping to do a PI in one of the creative departments.

I hope you both get a PI! I've got my fingers crossed for you :goodvibes Which did you apply for?

Hi andrea! There would be some course program through the internet that would let you choose in what suits you. I would recommend HRM and some interior decorator. :hippie::hippie:

Hey sorry it has taken so long to write back. I have been caught up with classes and wedding planning for myself.
The program is truly amazing, especially since the University owns the hotel which we do the training in. With that said you will do a project/presentation in every class. They do offer a Event Planning class and I am currently taking it. We plan the annual Gala.

Dr.Douglas teaches the Event Planning class, Hospitality Information Technology, and Hospitality Marketing. She is a great teacher but you will have to work your butt off whenever you take her classes because they all involve large projects. She can be scatterbrained and runs late to class a lot.

Dr. Aynoun is another teacher who expects you to put in alot of work and is kinda hard but he normally scales his test grades. He is hard because he words his test funny and he gets upset if you do not follow instrutions but he is vague on instructions. He hates fluff work. He teaches Hospitality Stragetic Management and Intro Hospitality but he did not actually teach the Intro class a staff member from the hotel did.

Dr.Martin is the newest staff member and a graduate from the program. He is young and still remembers what it is like to be a student with that said he is not easy but he is not hard. Always do his homework assignments because they can make or break your grade. For some reason all the classes I have taken with him have been only once a week for 2 to 3 hours. He teaches Facilities and Hospitality Finance.

Dr.Kim is very sweet and pretty easy; though I have heard she has gotten hard since I have taken her. My advice is take her seriously and show her respect. She teaches Hospitality Law and Lodging.

Other classes can be taught by hotel staff members such as the Hotel General Manager Hans or Donna Golden the HR person from the hotel.

There is a Practicum were you have to work at the hotel, it requires you to have 400 working hours in the industry before you take the class. I used my college program as my 400 hours. I asked if you could take any courses while on program that would count but it was only one course and it would have cost to much money for only 3 credit hours.

Lol I know that was long. I can never say enough good things about the Disney College Program and Auburn's Hospitality Program.

My son's father did the HRMT program at Auburn a year or so ago(when I did the SW program). Auburn is a good school and one of the few that haven't resorted to inflating grades. He really liked it and they got to go to Napa for one of his classes.

Oh yes I forgot to mention the "Napa Valley Trip". It is an amazing trip were around 15 students are taken to California get to stay in the best hotels, eat at the best restaurant, and visit amazing vineyards...for practically free. The students have go through an interview process and write a paper after the trip. Also the students have to be able to go between spring and summer semesters and provide a business waredrobe for the whole trip. Personally I decided not to go but had friends who went last year and loved it.

I went to Auburn the past two years before transferring to UAB for nursing school. I always wanted to do the College Program but sadly, nursing doesn't really allow for that. My boyfriend (who goes to AU now) did it though, and had the time of his life. He's counting down the days til he can move back down there and get a job.

War Eagle! :)

Auburn is my hometown! It's a wonderful place to live! I left home for college though so I'm not a student there but I can answer all kinds of questions you might have.

savannahjean85,

Sorry it took so long for me to reply! I was without a computer for a while

How is the event planning class? I'm so excited to take those! What are you working on for the Gala? I found the website for one of the past events a while back and there were a few different roles for the students. Do you get to pick which role you work on, or is it assigned?

Thank you so much for all the details on the instructors! I feel much better knowing a bit more about what to expect. So, basically, there is one big project in every class? Are there many group projects?

I just found out you're doing another CP and I am so excited to follow your vlogs! I watched all of your old ones and they were so much fun. What are you planning on doing after this CP? Do you think you'll want to look into a career at Disney?

Nice to hear more positive reviews!

How long is the trip, and what class is it for? I doubt I would do that.. I don't drink, so it would seem kind of pointless :lmao:

Awesome! What was his role on the CP?

Thanks! We're pretty excited to move down there. I'll definitely let you know if I have any questions!
