My friend lives in California and was visiting DL yesterday.. She said that there is an area that serves beer and wine (and it appeared that these particular parents were sitting in that area all day).. She went into the bathroom and she saw the mother full out beating her child.. My friend screamed and yelled at the mother.. Who proceeded to drag her child out of there screaming and then the father took over and my friend said she heard the son say something like " now dad is going take care of me".. and the father was dragging him into the mens bathroom.. My friend screamed at the parents and got security but she doesn't think anything happened to them..

I don't know what I would have done.. My friend said she wanted to grab up the boy and take him home with her.. How awful to have seen that.. She also mention that when he came out of the bathroom originally he was limping and grabbing onto his leg..
I know people don't like to mess around with how other people disipline their children but I think I would have had to say something?

no question I would have called the police. IDK what CA state laws are like but over here those parents would have been in for it, big time.

I would have called the authorities right away. Anytime is a child is in danger. I would rather call then be wrong and they were just kidding around (which clearly is not the case).

I know.. can you imagine.. my friend said she still can't stop thinking of the welfare of that child.. She did the only thing that she could do which was call security and they went into the mens bathroom while the father and son weere in there, but my friend was SO distraught that she packed her family up and called it a day..

Yep!:thumbsup2 Try to get a photo of the parents - at least, as good a photo as possible, or memorize what they are wearing, what they look like, etc. - and then report their, um...butts...to the cops!

I think your friend did the right thing in speaking up. I would not hesitate to stick my nose in to their business and speak up - who cares if the parents yell at me or ignore me? I would want them to know that I saw them.

Supposedly DLR has cameras all over the place, in both parks. Hopefully one of their cameras somewhere picked up some footage of what the parents were doing.

Well the only place in DL that serves beer and wine is Club 33. But if I would have seen that I would have been in that bathroom yelling for help. I hope security would have done something. I believe they do have to call the reg police to get involved as well.

Unreal. I would have said something and also called the cops. If they treat their son like that in public, imagine what the poor boy goes through at home!

Must have been at DCA but it doesn't matter where, really. I would have called to cops or brought it to the attention of a Cast Member to call the cops.

If she was unhappy with security's respose she should have called the police. Disney has no diplomatic immunity and if egregious child abuse is happening there the Anaheim police should be involved. 911 works in the parks.

Definitely had to be at DCA, or in DTD...but yes I would have found security ASAP, called the Anaheim police...actually I probably would have just called 911 and reported it that way, actually....DBF would have called 911 while I took photos of the "parents".....I cannot stand people who treat their children that way....

How very sad, I'm feeling ill for the child!!

We did foster care for 8 yrs & it's so sad to hear some of the stories these children lived through.

Your friend did right in getting security, I would have yelled for someone else to call 9-1-1 & then I would have sent my husband into the men's room to try & difuse things......he's not good at confrontations, but when it comes to a child.....he'd have no problem!!

I really hope DL security followed thru & got the authorities involved. Child abuse will only stop, if everyone that sees it, does something...........sad, sad, sad......my stomach is turning..........

OMG I have now read this several times and just do not know what to say.
To act this way in the happiest place on earth means that childs life at home must be a horror! I would have snapped photos and called 911 as well. I have to assume from the description that this went way beyond discipline. I am so sorry for your friend and even more so for that little boy. What a horrible memory for him to have attatched to DLR.

Although I doubt drunkenness was the total cause of this situation, I stand by the fact that I think Disney made a BIG mistake with the alcohol in DCA we had several run ins with people who were way past a few drinks when we were there at Christmas. If you want to go to a bar, go to a bar do not ruin other peoples vacations with your drunken behavior.

So no one called the police. I find it disgusting that people would witness a child being abused and not call the authorities.

What was the name of "the area" that they were drinking & sitting in?

Approx. how old did your friend think the boy was?

Was any reason given why they were beating him? (Did Security ask?)

OK - First, depends on the definition of 'beating' this is all in the eye of the beholder. This is important for #2.

Second - Not entirely sure if Anaheim has different laws, but in many CA cities it is legal for a parent to "spank" a child provided....

  • You only use your hand,
  • you do not hit the face,
  • You do not leave a mark and finally
  • you do not injure the child.
This means as long as you don't bruise the child, or break something, you can do this. I'm not discounting what your friend saw or saying that anyone is right or wrong. But since the question came up about the legality, I thought I would offer what I know. I know that many people have said they would call the cops. I for one would have called the cops too. Mainly because I would need some serious help pulling my husband off the dad.

I would hope that at least Security would ask them to leave or something. Being inside of DL or DCA is NOT a public place. It's a private place that you have paid an admission to get into. Seeing parents do something like this takes away from the "magic". On those grounds alone I think Disney would have authority to step in. Of course, depending on the parents... I've seen some that are really bad and would take it out on the kid for 'embarrassing' them. Because in their mind they are never wrong and everyone else in the world is to blame for anything that happens.

While this has nothing to do with this story, I'm sure it will be asked.... I learned all this when a friend of mine called the cops because her daughter and her friend both lied to their moms and ran off to spend all night with some older guys. They played the whole "I'm spending the night at her house" routine. My friend called the police department and flat out asked what she could do and what would be considered crossing the line. Ultimately she took her daughter at 9 am, when she innocently came home, down to the PD. Had them tell her exactly what the law was. And that she only has to provide clothes, food and a bed. Took away everything and gave her one heck of a spanking. This has never happened again.

I'm glad your friend called security - you'd think they have a direct link with the police so hopefully they called the police to investigate further.

It really is disgusting how no one acted upon the situation besides your friend :sad2:

Though, I had a similar experience back in November at DL, too. I was walking down Main Street with my friend and a woman started screaming at her daughter and throwing punches at her. I was terrified :scared1: But thankfully, about 5 security guards seemed to come out of nowhere and separate the mother from the daughter. Of course, the mother gave another fight, but she was for the most part subdued. It was still the strangest experience to have at the "Happiest Place on Earth", though :confused3

Disney has on property police officers who respond on something like that.

if security is called, they do lay back and watch from a distance if there is no threat...
