This is an interesting thread! I guess we all feel strongly about our Disney vacations and our budgets! 
I'll just add my 2 cents in then...
I COULD contribute the max to my 401K OR I could fully fund my DS college education OR I could take us to Disney more often and stay at deluxe resorts...BUT
I cannot do all of the above
So, like most others here, I try to balance our lives by putting a little away for retirement, some for college, some for emergencies and some for FUN.
My son will have to carry some student loans if he goes to a private college. That, I believe, will make him appreciate his education since he will have to help pay for it! (I had my share of student loans when I finished school too).
I will not be rich in my retirement but, God help me, I will be mortgage free!
And we won't be able to go to Disney every year or stay at the deluxe resorts, but we will go as often as we can and we will have a great time no matter where we stay.
I always worry about the vacation budget because we don't take vacations too often and when we do, I like us to really enjoy them (obsessive planner that I am)

Sometimes, we come home with money and other times, ouch!
We just try to do our best with what we have and enjoy the moments as they come.
