Anyone a homeowner for AKV & BWV?

Hi!
I’ve only very recently found out about the possibility of renting DVC points. I’d like to ask a few questions to somebody that is a homeowner at both AKV and BWV. If anybody here could help out, that’d be great :)

Feel free to delete it not allowed.

Cheers!

As long as you question is not about availability for specific dates, ask away.
It’s not :)

I’ve recently been told about renting DVC points as an option and it seems as though it might be the best option for what we need. I’ve done a lot of research since but still have some questions.
We’re looking to go for 2 weeks in xxxxxxxxx and from what I understand, rooms cannot be booked by home owners of their respective resorts until 11 months out.

Our plan is to do a split stay between AKV (standard view/value) and BWV (standard view). How likely would we be to get these at the 11 month mark, taking into account when we’d be visiting xxxxxxxxxx I’ve been told and explained what ‘walking the reservation’ means and how this makes it more likely to get dates successfully.

Also, is there any reason why we should try and find someone that is a home owner for both AKV and BWV other than it would be easier to deal with one person than two?

Sorry for all the questions! Am still getting my head round it a little bit. Thanks in advance!

Getting the value/standard view studios at those resorts would probably require the home resort booking advantage. Outside of convenience you would not need to book both from the same owner.

Thanks for your help! Just to clarify: It would be wise to try and have found a home owner for AKV and BWV at the 11 month mark because by 7 months (when it becomes available to all DVC members) the standard/value rooms are likely to have much less availability? Is that correct?

Yes, you will need the 11 month booking window for both as the value/standard view studios go first for those resorts. Don't stress about renting from the same person though.

From what I’ve read, getting a value room at AKV will be quite difficult even at the 11 month mark. I’ve been told that the standard rooms are easier but haven’t been given any indication what’s it like for BWV. Would you happen to have any idea?

I’d like to think that maybe it’s slightly easier because we’re going in anxxxxxxx but am not sure how much difference that actually makes

I edited your posts to remove when you want to travel since that and what you are looking for is not allowed to be posted like that. Only general questions allowed.

The two rooms you are looking for are some of the hardest to get year round. So, if you want the best chance, you need to line up owners well before the 11 month window so they are ready to go at 8 am when the window opens. It can be the same or different owners.

I understand, thank you. Apologies for that - thanks for amending.

I can not speak to whether or not your plans would require a "walked" reservation. That time of year has been previously considered off peak but the attendance patterns are shifting more to the cooler months and away from summer.

I was at WDW in January with a party of 6 when one member had a medical event and prevented us from flying home for 3 days. The only room WDW could find for us was a 2 Bedroom at SSR (it was really nice by the way).

Hi, I own both and BWV Std is super easy to get at 11 months compared to a value studio at AKV
they have become even harder recently as well which people speculate is due to renters getting up to $30pp for confirmed bookings due to the low points

Thank you! Do you rent out points yourself or just use them for yourself?

Is an AKV standard view easier than a value?

This person (see below) had a good post in another thread. If an Owner is renting out points, and the Owner can get the same price per point for making an easy reservation and for making a hard reservation, the Owner might want to do the easy reservation. An Owner who is renting out points might not want the stress of having to make a reservation at the exact minute it becomes available.

I’ve owned AKV for over a decade & have never gotten a reservation for a value, in fact, I could never even find an opening to start a walk, so I gave up trying after awhile. There are only 10 lock offs & 8 studios in the value category v. around 100 standard view lock offs, thus standard views at AKV are much easier to reserve than values.
I haven’t rented my points, but if I were to do so I’d not want to spend the time it takes to walk a reservation for a renter, & walking can be risky, for example, next year AKV is scheduled for a refurb. & at some point those value villas will be pulled from inventory for refurbing & anyone who was walking will find their walk has been blocked.

Std bwv rooms also tend to go by 8am at 11mo. Maybe akl values are harder to get but bwv std also difficult.
Thank you! So, does that mean the only real way we’d stand any chance is to rent points from a BWV home owner who is prepared to try and get us the dates at the 11 month mark as soon as they go on sale?

Yes. While I don’t own BWV and don’t rent, if I had to do that, I’d be charging more. And if one is paying more as a renter, might be better to just plan on easier to get rooms.

Not saying you won’t find someone, but I think if you do, they might expect you to be okay with pool/garden view as well.

An owner of a resort can reserve up to seven nights at the resort beginning at 8 a.m. eastern 11-months out from date of arrival; more nights can be added thereafter once one has a reservation . If your intent is to get AKV value or BWV standard studio or 2BR, be aware that those usually book full within nanoseconds after 8 a.m. at 11-months out for any given arrival date of the year; most owners who are trying to book lose the battle. The rooms cannot even be walked because it is so hard to find any date to begin a walk. Many AKV and BWV owners (including me) will not even agree with someone to attempt to rent one of those rooms. Even the 1BRs in those categories can often have that 11-month issue, although chances are much better during the summertime.

Also note that BWV boardwalk view rooms have the same 11-month issue during the "fall" season, which is DVC's high demand season at WDW and runs from late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan. and sometimes have the issue at random times the rest of the year.

AKV standard view rooms do not have that 11-month issue and you can usually get a room as long as you do not wait until long after the 11-month window opens. Outside of that high demand fall season, AKV standard view rooms at Kidani are often (but not always) open even at 7-months out when a DVC owner can begin reserving at a non-owned resort.
