I usually don't like twangy songs like this but I heard it on the radio this morning and can't get it out of my head.

Behind Closed Doors:
Charlie Rich

My baby makes me proud, Lord, don't she make me proud.
She never makes a scene by hanging all over me in a crowd.
'Cause people like to talk, Lord, don't they love to talk.
But when they turn out the lights, I know she'll be leaving with me.

And when we get behind closed doors,
Then she lets her hair hang down.
And she makes me glad that I'm a man.
Oh, no-one knows what goes on behind closed doors.

My baby makes me smile, Lord, don't she make me smile.
She's never far away or too tired to say: "I want you."
She's always a lady, just like a lady should be.
But when they turn out the lights, she's still a baby to me.

'Cause when we get behind closed doors,
Then she lets her hair hang down.
And she makes me glad that I'm a man.
Oh, no-one knows what goes on behind closed doors.

Behind closed doors

Yep, I remember when Philo and Orville took Clyde to the zoo to meet some ladies and that song played in the background.

I love that song - it reminds me of when I was a kid, swinging on our swings in the backyard and my dad had the little transitor radio on and this song was playing. :goodvibes

I remember seeing Ray Charls perform that song...so good, so bluesy. Made me wish I had an ounce of rythym :cool2:

It reminds me of how at that time when I was a teen, I thought
"What an old guy singing that song".
Now I'm probably close to that age!

That was my late mothers very favorite song! It was also on the jukebox at the VFW when my DH and I were little and we use to play it over and over. A couple of other favorites around that time were "Blue Spanish Eyes" and "Did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world".

AARRGGHHH!! I've hated that song since I was a small child. We had a neighborhood pizza place that had a jukebox and my sister always used to pick Behind Closed Doors and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World. Every week. Over and over.

My mother was fond of the song "Satin Sheets" right around the same time. All these songs plus Cat's in the Cradle make me cringe!

All the songs you mentioned bring back such happy memories to me.

Well, the MEMORIES they bring back to me are very happy. It's just that I never liked those songs much when I was a kid and I like them less now. But I can still smell the pizza parlor and remember how much fun I had mocking my sister for playing those songs and the good time we'd have going there with my parents whenever I hear them.

::yes:: Me too. Have you guys seen the Time Life country music collection commercial with Kenny Rogers? It has all of those old awesome songs. I will just sit there and watch the dang commercial. My DH thinks I am a freak. :rotfl:

I'm a sucker for old country like that.

For some reason, it makes me cry!
