I did the Geico quote thing online and the savings were pretty significant, but I don't know what kind of company they are. Does anybody use them for car insurance and if so, what do you think? Do you like them? How are they with claims? It seems like a really good deal, but I am afraid that when it comes time to renew they will raise the rates on me.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I use Geico for car insurance. I really like them...but I haven't had any claims yet. And hopefully I never will! Their rates are real good though.

We have it but so far have not had to claim and hope to never have to. We started out for 2 years at a rate of about 150 per month for 2 cars full coverage...2002 T and C Van and 96 eclipse. All of a sudden it dropped to 107 per month. So no complaints here. They said it dropped because we were preffered customers.

Gieco customer here:wave: I have a great rate and DH did have a claim about 2 years ago. It did not raise our rates by very much (maybe 25.00).

We've had GEICO for about 8-10 years. I have filed two claims with them, and they were pretty good. The repair shop we would have used anyway was one of their designated repair sites, so we just took it to them for an estimate, GEICO approved it, it was scheduled and paid for (minus our deductible). Our rates, which had dropped just about every year, have gone up some since the claims (within a year of each other). But that's reasonable, since our pattern of service has changed.

You can manage your account on-line, and they waive the monthly payment fee if you set up electronic billing and payment. That works well for us. One little gripe I had was when we had paper billing, the statements would often come about 10 days before the bill was due. I typically pay all my bills on payday (every 2 weeks), so occasionally I would get a bill just after I had gotten paid, and I had to make a special payment so I wasn't late. Every other bill I got usually came about 20 days before the due date.

I used to work for GEICO. A very strange company on the inside but they really have a good reputation with customers. They are very customer (and cost) focused to the exculsion of other things. I think most people would be happy with them.

I probably have to wait till this years policy with Met Life is done, but maybe I'll switch. If you're a step 9 or 10 driver it sounds like Geico gives great rates. I think I may be a step 10. I'll have to check.

Does anyone know how they compare to Met Life?

I used to have MetLife and I was paying $600.00 more a year for my car insurance (3). I have been with GEICO for a few years now and happy with them. Luckily, I have never filed a claim.

I was just about to call them to get a quote for my home insurance too.

I did notice that renewal came in for $100.00 more per year:( Again, I have not claimed anything or changed vehicles or coverage. I'll have to call them today.

I've had them for years, and they are an excellent insurance company. I had one (minor fender bender in parking lot) and they were easy and efficient to deal with. I also like the repair shop they have on their list, it's a reputable place (highly rated in Az). And no raise in insurance. You gotta love that! But maybe it's because I've been a customer for YEARS and this is the first claim I've ever had in my life (45). And only because of those stuipd yellow concrete posts that are in some parking lots, my high profile vehicle caused me to miss in my rear view mirror, so I got a little bump! Anyway, y'all have a great day!!!

As someone who has dealt with Geico from the other side, I can say I really appreciated their service. Last year we were hit by a woman (totally her fault, we weren't even moving  ) and within a week, all the statements were taken, the claim assesment was done and I had a check in my hand.

We have a combined home owners/car insurance policy that saves us a bunch of money and Geico hasn't been able to beat it, but if we needed to change, I would probably go to them first.

Been with Geico since I moved to Connecticut 3 years ago. never had a huge rate hike ever. I got into one accident about 2 years ago (hit a parked car...actually - my side mirror hit HIS side mirror.) The claim was handled quickly and my rate never went up.

After I got married, DH and I merged our insurances into one policy - I joined his policy as he was a 'preferred memeber' (been with them longer then me.) Our rates went DOWN actually...love that multi-car discount.

They were VERY helpful to me when I called up to merge these 2 policies...the girl on the phone was very helpful and explained everything to me. Everything was taken care of in like 20 minutes (if that). If anything - I personally think their customer service is outstanding.

I used to have Gieco for years - had a couple of claims (an accident, not my fault) and a damage claim (hail) they were all years ago. The last couple of years with them the cost started going up every six months at renewal. I finally decided to shop around and found a much lower rate at Nationwide which is were I have homeowners insurance. Their rates have stayed much more consistant.

Thanks so much everyone. I feel better now about making the switch. Hopefully we'll never have to test the claims dept. :D

My favorite thing about Geico is being able to call them anytime of day or night and talking to a live person. We were with American Family for awhile, and never knew, even at 1pm on a Tuesday afternoon, if we would get someone at our agents office.

I have had GEICO for 15 years.
The very first claim I had to make was in March and it was under Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist. I was in the middle of a 6 car pileup and the person who started it had the minimum coverage.
I am now in their ultra-preferred company.
I now am car shopping to replace the car that was wrecked in March. I have been driving my dad's car until we finished buying our house.
I have been very happy w/ them but I am also getting a quote from USAA as my parents have them and they are significantly less cost.
