I was looking at height requirements on the different rides, I realized my ds who is 3 is tall enough to ride the Matterhorn, but I wasn't thinking of taking him on it... Interested to know if anyone has taken a young child and what they think... :confused3

He is also tall enough to ride space mountain (he will not be riding just because he is tall enough):scared1:

well my son is short he may be big enough now to go on indy. but he love mattahorn last year he was 5 he also loved space and splash. but he wanted to do twilight tower and i made excuses why i didnt go..this time he wants to go

hmmm, I may wait another year before he goes on the Matterhorn, I was thinking Splash would be okay just because I know he would love everything inside!

Isn't there a kiddie roller coaster in TT? Or am I thinking WDW?

My 3 y.o. went on matterhorn (and she is short for her age), and when she turned 4 we just barely got her on (due to her height) Splash, Space and Soarin (and Matterhorn again)... She still is mad at me for talking her into Space, but Soarin is her new favorite ride! She refuses to do BTMRR... every other ride is cool with her (although I'd wonder if she'll do Space again when we go back when she is 7!)

We love Matterhorn though... one of the ladies at PFF told her to say hi to her friend the Yeti (who BTW speaks Monster, which is why you can't understand him--and is just trying to say hi--according to her), and now we have to ride in order to say hi to the Yeti!

I took my son on when he was 3, he just made it thanks to his mom and I not cutting his hair for a couple of weeks beforehand. He wasn't as scared of the roller coaster part as he was the roaring Yeti. As long as your little one isn't scared of monsters, they'll probably enjoy it as there aren't really any big drops, etc.

O.K. so this is a bit embarrassing, however, when I was 9 years old, and went on the Matterhorn for the first time, I was scared, my little hands were holding onto the front edge of the ride, I was sitting in front, on the floor, and my father was sitting on the seat, that is how one was to ride at that time, if you were a young enough child. Well let me tell ya, not only was I holding on for dear life, by the time the ride ended, my knuckles were white, and my face probably matched, the yeti did not scare me, it was the sharp turns, and looking down onto the ground that did that for me, I was so worried that I might fall to my death, it was not even funny, seriously.

I swore that ride off, for a good long time, as a child, now as an adult, no problem.

I hope that my tiny tale of terror some how helps you with deciding for your child whether or not you may take him this year, or when he is older.

We took Eamon at 3, and he really didn't like it. He'd go on TOT again before Matterhorn.

He didn't like the rattling and shakiness of the ride, mainly.

I also think it's b/c he went with hubby instead of me, and they were in the front. I think if he'd gone with me, so I could talk him through while he saw the comfort of Papa's back, it might have been different.

We took DD on Matterhorn last year when she was 3. She LOVED it! This year she should be big enough for Space, BTMRR, and Splash. I can't wait to see what she likes.

Both of my kids were tall enough to ride the Matterhorn and did when they were three. They got off and were all smiles and said they loved it but when we asked if they wanted to go again, they said no, LOL.

Both of my kids LOVE all the other coasters and big rides in DL, but they are so funny...they are still both kind of scared of Matterhorn because of the snow monster. They'll go on it, but they never ask to go on it, so we usually skip it. Plus it tends to hurt my back ;-)

I'm really surprised by the low height requirement of The Matterhorn. This is one of the most "jerky" rides at Disneyland period. Every time I go on it, I'm surprised by how much I'm jostled around. My 3 year old daughter will be tall enough on our next trip, but I'm really not sure about taking her on it.

Every kid is different though... I'm not thinking about them being scared so much as being jostled around. I think the difference between riding in the daytime verses the nighttime would matter quite a bit as well.

I took my youngest on this past March. He was just over two (26 months old). I don't think he liked it - he had a horrified look on his face the whole time and looked a bit shocked when we got him off! :scared1: He really wasn't verbal yet so I couldn't ask him what he thought.
When we went this past August I didn't take him on. He was much more aware of things on rides this month then he was in March. He screamed through Pirates, HM, Peter Pan, Alice. All of these he rode just fine in March. :confused3
Anyway, a little off topic. I think it really depends on the child's maturity rather than their height.
His favorite ride was Winnie the Pooh and Buzz Lightyear!

My (barely) 4-yr old daughter went on it no problem last year...she also went on Space Mtn and claimed to love it...until we asked if she wanted to ride again (seems like a recurring theme..) :thumbsup2

I went on it at age 4 with my dad and loved it. I was scared of POTC though, because I thought they were shooting at me. Rides like Space weren't there then. I guess it just depends on your child. If it was me, I'd wait until he was older to go Space. Even when my boys were 6 I felt like they were a little too small and light for it, even though they met the height requirment.

I think it all depends on your child. My daughter, Kelly, loved the Matterhorn at age 3. She would sit in front of me & I would wrap my legs around her. lol She loved it. My son, Nick, wouldn't go on that ride until he was probably 6 or 7.

Oh, and when they were little, Monsters Inc., hadn't been invented yet, so when they asked me why the Yeti roared so much, I asked them, "Well, wouldn't you be roaring if you were stuck up on that mountain and couldn't ride all these fun attractions at Disneyland? ;)

I took my 3 year old on it, he loved it. It's not that scarry

Last spring my barely 3 yo loved the Jack Rabbit at Kennywood. I can't imagine the matterhorn is any worse than that. He's really excited for all the roller coasters, and was upset that he won't be big enough to go on the one at DCA! (which I think would be too much for him).

DD went on both Matterho3.5rn and Big Thunder when we went when she was 3.5. She loved both. The only concern she had was the yetti in Matterhorn was "scary".

Thanks. Yea I knew there had to be one but didnt know which one it was. Thanks again!
