When I went to WDW when I was 14 they had a ride in tomorrowland. I think it was called something like. You can fly! Or something like that. I remember we rode it like 4 times it was so cool.

Am I losing my mind or does anybody else remember it? I know it is not there anymore though.

Yep! I can't remember the name, but wasn't it the ride sponsored by Delta?

The ride was called something like "If You Had Wings" and it was sponsored by Delta. I think Buzz is in that spot now.

We leave in just 6 days   :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

From the WaltDated World site (featuring defunct rides) :rolleyes2

"When Eastern stopped sponsoring the ride on June 1, 1987, the references to the airline and theme song were dropped The attraction was briefly known as If You Could Fly until it was replaced by Delta Dreamflight (later called Take Flight when Delta ceased its sponsorship.) The Exterior featured the flying birds from the beginning of the ride instead of the Eastern logo and a new song was used at this time. The show building is currently used for Buzz Lighter's Space Ranger Spin and still uses an Omnimover track. Timekeeper makes a reference to If You Have Wings during his Circle-Vision movie."

In the building where Buzz now sits, there was If You Had Wings (sponsored by Eastern Airlines) from 1972 to 1987. After that, it became If You Could Fly (Eastern dropped sponsorship) from 1987 to 1989, then it was remodeled completely into Dreamflight (sponsored by Delta Airlines) from 1989 to 1996, and renamed Take Flight (Delta dropped sponsorship) from 1996 to 1998, when the space was changed into the Buzz attraction.

You can find a lot more about If You Had Wings here: http://home.cfl.rr.com/omniluxe/iyhw-main.htm

Tim, who barely remembers anything about riding If You Had Wings :confused3 , but remembers it was a good ride that didn't require any tickets back in those days.

I have a dvd that shows the complete rides - If you had wings, Take Flight and Dreamflight. It is a little dark in some parts but it has the songs and brings back so many memories. I really loved "If you had Wings". If you are interested in where I got the DVD, pm me. They also have many other now retired attractions.

Dreamflight -- my sister and I loved it. Never a line and it was airconditioned. I loved the song.. .Dreamflight, it's the most magical flight of your life.. those daring young men in their flying machines... I miss it actually!

The first and only time I've been to WDW (1986) I got on this ride. I enjoyed it.

We used to ride the eastern version over and over again because back in the day it was "free" - no extra ticket needed - and it was cold!

I loved the ride...

but then again I loved the Pochantos show in MGM which they got rid of and then they got rid of the Hunchback show which also was a terrific show,.

And I also remember in epcot the show which is now HOney I shrunk the audience.'

way back it featured none other than Michael Jackson...can't remember the title but was a good show

Yeah, Dreamflight!!! That used to be one of my FAVORITE rides! :thumbsup2 Thanks for bringing this up!!! I COMPLETELY forgot about this one!

Loved it!!!

There was never a long ride so my sister, brother and I would ride it over and over again...

If you had wings.............

We'd sing it all day

I miss the Hunchback show too! So underrated! And the Michael Jackson show was Captain EO. :goodvibes

Ah, yes! I remember it well!

When I was in middle school we took several class trips to WDW and "If You Had Wings" was one of the things I remember riding over and over! I think we actually only rode about 5 rides in the entire park! Space Mountain, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, the People Mover, and that one! Oh, we were big fans of Snow White and Mr. Toad, too, but those broke down ALL the time!

I remember the voice-over at the end as the ride vehicle rounded the last corner "You DO have wings! We'll be your wings!" but if I had to guess the sponsoring airline there is no way I could have remembered which one it was. I guess I better hope I don't get a question like that if I am in the hot seat at WWTBAM! ;)

The Eastern version of "Wings" was my absolute FAVORITE ride at the Magic Kingdom when I was little. My Mom and I would ride it over and over again while my Dad rode Space Mountain. Ya'll are right... there was never a line.

Captain EO was pretty darn cool. Remember that lady with those crazy fingernails that came pokin' out at you? What about that other 3D movie. What was it called, Magical Journeys? With the witch?

It's so sad to see things go. Mr. Toad, Horizons and Journey into Imagination were the most painful.

I'm nervous about them changing POC now. It's such a classic and Walt himself had a huge hand in it, no? I think it's timeless and doesn't need any upgrading. It should be sacred...hallowed ground or whatever you call it.

Nostalgia is a HUGE part of the WDW experience. I'd hate to see it change too much.

Good thing Disney is cheap ( or never tosses anything away)

Some of the film footage from the "You Have Wings" ride is still playing in the park. You just have to know where to look?

Go to Epcot, take the ride in Mexico. All the film footage of the cliff diving, and Islands :sunny: is from the 1960's. As I wondered why they had such old footage it hit me.... these are some of the old films from "If You Had Wings" :thumbsup2
