how to get vaseline out of your hair?

My wonderful children have managed to get a hold of a big tub of vaseline and have put it in each others hair they are currently water proofed better than your average duck and I could do with some ideas of how to wash it out. I have tried a bit of washing up liquid but that hasn't worked.

Any ideas??

This is american, and they mean Cornflour! I have really long hair and have had all of the obligatory hair disaster's in my time (chewing gum, super glue, diy haircuts etc...) lol. Good Luck, little rascals !

Steps For Removing Vaseline From The Hair

STEP 1: Take a paper towel and blot as much of the Vaseline from the hair as possible onto the paper towel. Do not rub as this can damage the hair. Blot and pat carefully.

STEP 2: Apply a little cornstarch or cornmeal powder (do not use baby powder as it can be harmful to the lungs) to the sections of the hair that contains the Vaseline. Blot or pat the cornstarch onto the hair. Again, do not rub. Make sure that the entire area of Vaseline is covered with a light amount of the cornstarch or cornmeal powder.

STEP 3: Once the hair has been completely covered step into a warm, not hot, shower. Apply a good clarifying shampoo to the palms of your hand and then apply to the hair.

If you don't have corn starch try baking soda. Dawn dish soap may help but it will take several washings to get it out. Good luck!

It's funny because I was lying in bed this morning and I suddenly thought about flour! I am going to try it on them now. I tried washing up liquid last night and it did nothing!

My Daughter did exactly the same thing when she was little a whole big tub full of it.

I tried washing up liquid and that did nothing nor did flour. In the end in desperation i rang my local hairdressers and asked them, they said use Fairy wahing up liquid, it has to be fairy.
It took a couple of days of washing but it did all come out.

Thanks Tim very helpful! That was Dh's suggestion too, I wouldn't mind but DS has a lovely head of blonde curls and now he just looks like he hasn't been washed for 6 months!

The flour didn't work that well on DS, obviously DD did a better application job on him than he did on her!

I will have to get some Fairy liquid, the one I tried last night was Tesco's own brand and didn't do a fat lot!

My sister and I did this when we were little (a very long tme ago) My Nan used swarfega (really have no idea how to spell it). I think its what car mechanics use to get oil off their hands. Now i'm sure this isn't the safest thing to use so i'm in no way recommending it but my Nan always swore our hair never looked better after- don't think my Mum was too impressed. Hope the fairy works

Hi Gem if you haven't had any luck just try shampoo but DON'T wet your hair just massage the shampoo on neat.
