We are going to the DVC BBQ at BWV on July 15th, our check in day to BWV. Does anyone know what they charge per person for the BBQ, I am budgeting my money for the week and wanted to know.

Thanks

I guess I am majorly out of the loop then because I thought it was free to members and their families.

Bumping up would also like to know. Plan on going on it's last time (sept). Anyone been? More info and opinions appreciated.

I read somewhere that they charged a "nominal" fee, whatever that means. And nobody seems to know how much they charge.

The way I took it to read was that the food and beverages were available at an extra charge. I did not take anything sounding like there was a charge to attend. Anyone been there who can clear this up? Natt

We were at BCV last week but did not attend the BBQ so I don't know the prices for the food and beverages. No charge to attend the event. There were special things going on at each DVC resort but my son and I wanted to have dinner at San Angel and do some things at Epcot so we did!

Anyway the wording was "Head over to the Dunes Cove Pool area for summertime favorites (additional charges for food and beverages), character appearances and kids' games. (In case of rain, the Member Day Barbeque will be replaced with a Member Day Social located in the Breezeway. Disney characters will be available for photos and autographs and Disney Vacation Club speciality drinks will be for sale.)

There was a pool party at OKW, fishing excursion($10/person) and celebration at BWV, and a nature walk, specialy cruise($30/person), and family activities at VWL.

We ran over to the Beach Club cookout for a few minutes in the rain. There was no charge to go to the cookout itself. The food and drinks were for sale. I believe it was something like $4 for a hamburger. $1.50 for chips and about $2.50 for a soda.
I hope that helps.
As far as the rest of member day, we went to the pool party at OKW in the afternoon. It was fun, they had a DJ and had some games and gave away prizes.

I looked up the word "nominal" in the Disney Dictionary: Verb, mean to bend over, grab your ankles and spell RUN.

Well done. That's a pricy cookout.

I think that is about the same price as in MK. I guess at the cookout we don't qualify for the DVC discount;)

Well did they at leats giev us a pin or soemthing for the "pricey cookout"? :p

Did they use the charcoal grills at Dunes Cove or something else? We may want to use them and would need to plan accordingly. What time was it? TIA

LOL!!!

My thoughts exactly ... they must be some kinda burgers! Ya gotta love the special member treatment!

(Disclaimer: Don't get me wrong, I love being a member ... but would it kill them to throw us a bone [or a cheaper burger] once in a while?)

We're not paying for the barbecue or any of the other activites out of our dues (as far as I know), so they have to pay for the costs of putting this event somehow (cast member salaries, etc)...

I'm tired of the negativity and the 'us vs. them' mentality. We bought a vacation ownership program, not the company. Yes, it's Disney, and yes, we obviously love Disney very much, but our contracts certainly don't include these extras as a right.

I'm happy that there's an organized way for us to get together with other DVC members and meet. And while I don't know what kind of fixins are available for the hamburgers, $4 doesn't seem like all that much (when compared to what you'd pay for a deluxe burger at a fast food or sit-down restaurant or here at home).

Well said! I too was thinking that $4 didn't sound too pricey for a hamburger! Just try getting food a baseball game sometime, if you want to see pricey!

... I'm just having some fun,but...

I don't care what they charge for their burgers, but does your sit-down restaurant advertise their burgers price as "nominal" ?? It's all in the wording.

Maybe you can provide a link to the "nominal" quote you're criticizing. Here is the wording from the Member's Site about the event and I can't seem to find the word "nominal" anyplace in Disney's announcement. Perhaps you have access to other information for the "advertisement" you mention?

From the Member's Site:

"Then we're lighting the grill (and one candle) because it's time for the Member Day Barbecue, celebrating the first anniversary of Disney's Beach Club Villas. Head over to Dunes Cove Pool area for hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, soda, beer, wine, and the Member Day Drink Special (all for an additional charge)."

Read the entire thread and you'll see where I got "nominal" from.

But you don't really care where I got it from, do you.

The person that used "nominal" said they read it "somewhere." Doc and I both listed direct quotes from DVC materials that didn't mention nominal anywhere...."additional charge" was the wording used.

Now kids...let's not pick nits and argue semantics!!!!;)

Do they have anything like this going on during the time period between July 26th and August 1st, when DH and I will be there????

We're usually not there during any of the member meetings etc, so if anyone knows of a member get together going on during our stay, I'd love to know about it!
