Have any of you kept a journal of the Latitude and Logitude of your cruise? I want to create a rough estimate of the path of the ship over the 7 day eastern cruise so that I can map it out on Google Earth.

What exactly would do you have in mind? I did keep records for the eastern, but I used the L&L onboard the ship, not my own GPS. I generally have 2x per day. I did not keep a perect time base, just approx every 12 hours plus ports. Also, we went to Antigua instead of St. Marteen.

After further review, the only Lat & Lon I wrote down was at port in Antigua. Other than that I marked our position on a hurricane tracking chart. I can get you close on the decimal L&L (Antigua is 17.07N , 61.50W). Best I can do is like this: At 9:15 pm Eastern on departure day, we were near 27.25N, 79.75W heading 141°. Next morning @ 7:32am, near 25.25N, 76.40W, heading 121°. If this is acceptable, let me know, and I'll compile a list!
PM me if you wish, or post here.

On our third cruise (it was an Eastern) I kept sporadic L&L readings from the tv. I did not have a specific time each day but just when I happened to be in the room. My intent was to map out our cruise for a scrapbook. Needless to say I never did it. I should have the list somewhere. Finding it will be the trick!

Thanks!! any lat and long that you have from any part of the day would be fine, maybe I can construct (at least) a rough estimate of the path of the ship. I'm just trying to map out an estimate of the path of the ship and where it might be each day, so if you have a lat and long with a day (day of cruise, not date) and time (even approximate) it would be fun to map it out on Google Earth.

We are going on the 7 Day Eastern and I have already mapped out the 'road trip' from Atlanta down to the port, and I have added 'placemarks' on St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and CC. It would be great to add some additional placemarks if anyone recorded the lat and long of any other part of the cruise ... also a good lat and long of where the ship docks for St. Maarten and St. Thomas would be good also. I can see the dock at cc, so that is not a problem.

Example:

Day 1 @ 4:00 PM - Port Canaveral
Day 1 @ midnight -Lat & Long
Day 2 @ noon - Lat @ Long
Day 3 @ 6 AM - docked at St. Maarten (Lat & Long)
etc.

Anyway, just looking for more info in anybody has any. Thanks!

Yes, that's perfect ... just a close guess is fine, just trying to get a rough estimate as to where the ship will be each day, I can fill in the blanks as long as I have an estimate of the day (day 1, 2, etc.) and approximate time.

Thanks!!

Thanks! If you can find some of them it would be great, I can probably peace together a rough estimate of the path of the ship, even if you don't have the day or time the lat & long. was taken.

Ok, here it is. The lat and long for Port Canaveral, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay, are from my GPS mapping software. The rest are approx from my hurricane chart. Hope this helps. It jams everything together when I post it, so if you would like a copy of this in Word or Excel format, PM me your e-mail address, and i'll send it to you.

MSWint,
I see you are from Atlanta. We have family in the Atlanta area.
We will be passing thru Atlanta on the evening of Sept. 30, headed to the Port for a 4 night Wonder! Almost time to go!

Thank you BigRed1 ... that is perfect!!! I will see what I can contstuct on Google Earth with those coordinates.

PS. If you are passing through Atlanta on Sept. 30 ... don't forget, it's a Friday and the traffic here is absolutely unbearable on Friday afternoons. Try to come through Atlanta very early or very late. :wave2:

Thanks, I wouldn't dare approach Atlanta during rush hours! We wil be through between 9 and 10pm. It wasn't bad last year at that time. Hope its the same!

yup, that should be late enough to miss the afternoon rush. :moped:

We are leaving early Friday Morning 9/16 for our 9/17 cruise, we are staying at the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront .... hoping to get down there in time for a nice drink and a late sunset dinner.

Thanks again for the info!!!

getting close now, six weeks from today we will be in Cocoa Beach ... not able to sleep cause we are so excited! :goodvibes

Anybody else jot down any lat & long positions (with cruise day, and time) on your 7 Day Eastern?

Looking for more postions. :teacher:

Thanks!!

Bumping.

Come on ... somebody must have written down their latitude and longitude positions somewhere along the way on their Eastern Cruise.

I brought my GPS with me on our last cruise. I was going to mark waypoints every now and then, then load it on my PC when I got home.
HOWEVER; my GPS needs a external power source, I could only get satellite reception while on the verandah, (outside), and the power outlet was too far away. DUH!
Next time I will bring a extension cord with me for my little project, 2006 western.

This is my first cruise, but it is my understanding that they have a channel on the TV that gives Latitude/longitude/speed/direction that the ship is traveling at all times. Is this true?

If so, I will 'try' to write down our position two or three times a day (I said 'try') and report back here on this post for anybody that might want the positions to map out the actual path of cruise.
