Anybody is cancelling due to hurricane?

I looked all over - I was sure that somebody opened the thread on that subject.

But it doesn't look like somebody did.

So I am going to the one.

We are supposed to fly to Orlando in the evening of October 6th. Southwest is already saying about delays and cancellations, as this is going to be when the hurricane impact should be the most.

I have never been in the situation like this. But I am starting to think of cancelling everything.

It is only me and my husband, and the reason we booked the trip as I have a conference event to attend in Grand Floridian on October 8th.

I did buy travel insurance on October 2nd, when the news about hurricane started to spread around intensely. It seems like they say they would cover the cancellation due to inclement weather. But I never filed the claim for travel insurance before. Hopefully that is going to work.

Anybody knows - if Disney has some cancellation policy for situations like this? Because the reservation is not cancellable now already under normal circumstances.

I guess I also am looking for common wisdom from people - how do you handle situation like this?

There is a statement coming out this morning that Disney is offering no cancellation fees and some refunds on a case by case basis for those coming in over the next couple of days.

Also, there is a long thread about the hurricane in Theme Park Attractions and Stratgies. Lots of info in there that might help.

Good Luck!

Thank you very much!

We did call Disney, it took us a while to get on hold of them - they are probably overwhelmed, or there are already problems caused by weather in Florida.

But finally we talked to them, and they promised to refund the money I paid for the hotel without any penalty.
