and how do you like it??? i am looking to get it. i have the Wii fit but am looking for something a little tougher...

i want to good bad and the ugly ;)

TIA :goodvibes

I bought the Wii Active, because Wii Fit really wasn't much of a workout. I do love it, BUT, injured my knee badly doing the lunges and squats. Turns out my kneecaps are in the wrong spot, I've been going to PT twice a week, and the therapist thinks I have at least one tear behind my knee (all of this was not caused by the game, but the 20 miles I put on the treadmill every week, for years).

I love it too...it's way better than Wii Fit for exercise. I still use the board balance board it will incorporate it into the exercises. There is lots of variety, they are fun to do and it really makes you sweat!

We have Wii Active and it kicks out butts HARD!

First, I like to think of myself as moderately fit. I grudgingly run 9-18 miles per week and have been doing weight lifting for almost a year (with a personal trainer once a week).

Preworkout--you can customize your Mii--I chose the tall svelte me ;). If you do the 30 day challenge, there is a journal you are supposed to fill out everyday--two fitness surveys--I guess it makes you think about what your lifestyle is like. There is no scale like the Wii fit or fitness test.

I liked the 30 day challenge--I started out on easy but quickly changed to hard because I need a little more challenge. I found the band to be too easy for arm exercises, so I got a heavier weight one. I did not like the handles that are included in the game--the tended to roll and cut into the palms of my hands. Lots of squats and lunges in the exercises of the 30 day challenge which really toned up my legs. The arm exercises were good and I think they toned my arms pretty well. Cardiovascular was OK--running in place was the hardest followed by inline skating--a series of squat jumps. I was not impressed by the sports fitness (ie volleyball or basketball) because in order to get the Wii to hit the ball back, I found I had to use less of an exercise range.

My children (16 and 9) are not at all interested in the game.

After finishing the 30 day challenge, I have not used the game. I am considering moving up to P90X for an even bigger challenge (not a Wii game). Hope this helps--PM me if you have any other questions.

I'm with RoyalBear. It's a fun game and definitely more challenging than the Fit, but I haven't done much with it past the 30-day challenge. The handles also hurt my hands at certain points. Made me break out in a sweat though, so that's nice.

I have a tough, tough time with the sports games. The Wiimote never seems to accurately gauge my movements, so either my avatar either tries to wack a ball that isn't there, for example, or it just stands there and lets balls hit her on the head. :-) Those games are really frustrating and I've basically stopped playing them; it has a neat feature where you can preview the work-out you're about to do and turn off the ones that you don't like.

so what do you do after the 30 days? can you figure another workout program for x amt of days or do you just do your own? and did you reach your 30 day goal?

thanks so much for the feedback!!

We bought this 2 days before going on vacation in May, DD decided to give it a try before we left but I opted to wait. I didn't want to try it for 2 days and then be gone for 8 and then start up again.

While on vaca I stupidly broke my kneecap  and have not been able to try it since getting home. The Ortho Dr told me 4 to 6 weeks, and it was 6 weeks yesterday. I can do stairs finally without much pain, but I am worried about trying this game too soon, especially after reading about mjkacmom. I have gotten back on the WiiFit and tried some of the balance games and did fine, but I am a little worried about doing the step ones if I were to step wrong.

I'm wondering how long before I dare give the Active a try.

If you did the 30 day challenge in easy or moderate mode, you can repeat it at a higher level or repeat it again.

It does have preprogrammed workouts or you can design your own workout from a list of exercises, sports. It really does have potential beyond the 30 days and I am sure I could tweak it to make it more challenging to me, but I get bored with the same type of exercise after a while, so I was going to go back to it later.

We haven't done the 30 day challenge yet. We just pick which workout we want to do, and we do it together. We are both pretty out of shape so it is a great workout for us. We get more out of it than we did going to the gym. We always finish soaked in sweat and totally pooped!

I find the Wii Fit pretty easy. I quickly unlocked just about everything. I bought the Sports Active. Man, it was HARD!! I started on Easy for 30 minutes. Let's just say that the next day I had to hold on to something to sit on the toilet. :scared: Those squats just about did me in. I haven't worked up to the 30 day challenge yet.

Once you finish the 30-day Challenge (which basically introduces you to the exercises, how you should be moving your body, how you should be moving the Wiimote, etc.), there are a list of pre-determined exercise sets you can pick to do. I haven't done them yet, but there's a looooong list. Upper body, lower body, sports, cardiovascular, etc. They also vary with regard to time, so some of them take only 15 minutes but some of the more intesense ones can take up to an hour to get through. Or like pp said, you can set up your own, but that seems like too much work to me. :P

And no, I didn't "successfully" complete the 30-day Challenge. I do other, non-game workouts as well, and it got mad that I didn't do 20 workouts in exactly 30 days, so I didn't reach that goal. :-) There are other goals you can set, relating to calories burned, number of workouts per number of days, and...crap, there's another one that I can't remember. I thought the goals were kind of lame and didn't really pay much attention to them...

On my second 30 day challenge, it really makes me sweat. :thumbsup2
I have toned my butt with all the squats and my shorts feel looser. :worship:

You can download predesigned workouts from Bob Greene and other users. I'm not sure how exactly do it but it is possible.
