Anybody have a snake as a pet?

*I promise I won't force it on her; I just wish that she would at least give a reason.*

If she's like many people, I doubt she knows the "reason" she dislikes snakes. I have an unnatural, sick phobia concerning snakes and DH has repeatedly asked "why". I've never been frightened by one when younger, never bitten or even have a fear now of being bitten...just don't know. :confused3 Another thing, I've heard from people who do own snakes as pets is that they have a horrible odor associated with them. Something about their waste being soooo repulsive that your home will suffer as a result. Is this true??? :earseek:

no, that is completely false with many snakes. with a few breeds it may be, but when in the case of a corn snake or ball python, you dont' generally experience that unless you actually stick your head in the cage.

I am terrified of snakes. One of my cousins had one when we were younger. He had a boa constrictor. that horrible creature got out of his cage and ended up in my aunt's kitchen. She ended up on the kitchen table screaming. I ended up screaming running down the street back home. My uncle and cousin got a good laugh over that. Never did find that funny.

I have never had a snake (although there have been days when I wish I had one - like when a mouse sneaks into my house), but one of my gal pals did. She raised boas and she also had a snake chiropractor type for one of the pet snakes that was having some skeletal issues :earseek:

Hmmm, I thought this was a new thread. Anyway, yeah, I have snakes. I'm now in the unfortunate circumstance of needing other people to come and take care of them since my daughter isn't here.

My 20/20 advice. Never get an animal that all parties are not %100 willing to take sole care of.

There are four kinds of snakes that I don't like.

1. Big
2. Alive
3. Dead
4. Small

we had a snake once for a pet....we got it when it was a baby snake...so cute it fit in dh shirt pocket when he brought it home.....his name was Themis and he was a very gentle snake....dh let the snake roam around the house and lost track of him one night.....the next day....we look all around he's hooked himself around the water heater....we also had 2 birds at this time! we got a job transfer and dd was expected any day so we had to find him a home.

dd 9 has 3 snakes in her classroom

corny and rudy are corn snakes

and jake is a ball python. all 17 kids in her class love them.
