try popuptimes.com shep. Also the camping board and Kermit has a popup. We want to get one also.

Send this link to Tamie, (tkyes) for when she and Joe get back from WDW, Todd. I know they have one, just went to WDW in it.

thanks..
I posted a thread on the camping board too..:)

Hi Shep,

Yes, we have a 2002 Starcraft/Nova Series and love it. We have gone the entire route, started with a pop-up, went to a trailer, to a Motorhome, 5th Wheel and are now back to the Pop-up.

This is the floor plan we decided on.

We decided against the bathroom area for more room.

Please let me know what questions you have :)

You can see all of the models at:

www.starcraftrv.com

We've got a 5 year old Jayco - the model is a 12UDK.

We tented for years and we absolutely love the pop-up. It makes things so much easier camping with my crowd. I still like to get out in the woods in a tent - obviously the remotest locations are out of the question with the popup BUT the comfort and convenience of the pop-up make it so easy.

We don't have battery power on ours and are planning to get that installed this year, along with a fridge.

You're probably going to be shopping at just the right time. You can get some very good deals on used pop-ups at the end of the summer.

Be sure that your vehicle can handle the load too. You should have specs on towing capacity somewhere in your owner's guide.

Drop me a PM or email (oldkicker@hotmail.com) with any questions you have and GOOD LUCK shopping for your pop-up! :D

My neighbors got one before summer started. They havent used it once yet. It seems extremely small to me(and I had plenty of room at the All Stars. ;)).

If you haven't camped in one, I would strongly recommend either renting one or borrowing one from a friend if possible. We received one from my dh's coworker, he just didn't use it anymore. We were psyched, got it all cleaned up and went camping. That was the one and only time we used it. We really would have kept it except for one thing--no bathroom:( . That is a definite must have with a family of girls! Maybe go to an RV show and check out all the models. We go every year but still haven't taken the plunge for a travel trailer. We like the small hard-sided trailers that have a kitchen and bathroom but the beds pop out either end, like a pop-up. Whatever you decide, have fun!

We debated back and forth about whether to get a pop up or a regular travel trailer when we were looking. We had decided that a bathroom was a definite must. We were walking through an end of the season rv dealer sale and found a HiLo. With the push of the button, it lowers for convenience in towing and storage yet you have all of the conveniences of a full size camper, (bathroom and tub/shower too! :) ). We got a great deal on it. It was used but in fantastic condition!! It's towing profile is about the same as the height of a minivan so it is very aerodynamic. There web site is www.hilo.com. Give them a look!

We have a pop-up and love it. I grew up having travel trailers and motor homes, but I really like the pop-up. We have a 2001 Coleman Niagra. It has 2 king beds and a shower and toilet. We've never used the shower and rarely use the toilet, but we may someday. For now we've always been happy with the campground bathrooms.

Pop-ups have a lot of advantages over travel trailers to the begining RVer. They're a lot easier to tow, so you may not need to get a new vehicle to tow with. They're also easier to store. We can't get ours in the garage because our double garage has 2 single doors instead of one big one and the width of the pop-up is the same as the door, but you could keep it in most garages.

We also love having 2 king beds. You'd never get a king bed in a bigger RV. Being able to open the windows on all sides is nice too. You'll notice that most travel trailers have just a few small windows.

We have a 6 sleeper popup we bought 20 years ago new. We have toured the country many times coast to coast 3 to 4 weeks at a crack for about the same as l week at disney costs.

One of the best investments we've every made!

Rent one for a weekend before you buy. Can your car handle a fully loaded trailer?

Wow..
Thanks everyone..I am torn on if a small one will be good enough for us, but I think I might get a bigger one, and possibly used if i can find the right deal..:)
Hope to get one next spring when the car is paid off...
BTW---I have a S-10 p/u to pull it with(with a v6 engine):)

Hi Shep!

My DH sells RV's for a living, so if you have questions, I can ask him for you. Whether or not your S-10 will haul the camper will depend on its towing capacity and the weight of the trailer.

We have had a tent trailer now for 5 years. We have really enjoyed it. Before that we used tents. We got a half decent one but not as big as the one I wanted. Dh thought we would be better buying the smaller one but now 5 years later he is kicking himself so really make sure what you can pull and what you are wanting in a trailer. Storage space is needed. We have a 3 way fridge, which means the fridge works off of battery, electricity and propane. That is great. My dd has a cooler in hers and so it isn't of much use. The one I wanted had a toilet so my dh bought me a portable one that is easy and good, but I think I would really have liked to have had the bathroom in it already. If you have any questions you can e-mail me at any time.

If you buy a used one, be sure to look to see if there are water stains or mold inside the camper indicating water has leaked in.

You don't want to buy a camper that leaks! Impossible to fix easily.

You'll probably pick up on this right away if you spend any time on Popup Times, but another thing to look for with used ones is a sagging roof if it's a Coleman. I *think* the years that had the problem were 1999-2000, but it may have started earlier. It would only apply to models that have the ABS roof.

BTW, I love the ABS roof, since I have one that doesn't sag. It's a wonderful plastic material that isn't noisy in the rain. I can't imagine sleeping in the rain in one with a metal roof. If you like to sleep in the rain, it may not matter, but I don't.
