I'm going to be in the Los Angeles area this July and likely won't be returning anytime soon. Being a Disney nut, I intend on dedicating at least two days to Disneyland and DCA, but until today I'd planned on going with a friend. Now it seems the friend has to cancel plans, but I'd still like to go.

For those who have gone solo, was it an enjoyable experience? Would you suggest it? Against it?

I just got back home from a solo trip Sun and Mon of this week (was in CA on business). I have done this many times over the years - and oh yes - it is a lot of fun. I haven't finished a trip report yet but plan to. I will say 2 words - do it. Yes, it can have a few difficulties (like not being able to send someone to get drinks while waiting for a parade or Fantasmic... or losing your spot if you have go to the bathroom! :rotfl:) - but there are so many terrific benefits as well - like doing whatever you want to whenever you want to... getting to enjoy shows or attractions that your family members might not want to do...eating whatever you choose and not worrying about whether or not there's something on the menu that everyone will like, eating ice cream before lunch - or better yet FOR lunch! Even if you only try it out one time - a SOLO trip is a great way to really experience the park.

As an AP holder for 20 years, I have done MANY solo trips. . .I don't think twice about them, its something I do just cause I want to go. . .I do EVERYTHING I want, I talk to everyone and I just basically have a grand time. . .

I'm leaving Saturday for a solo trip, and have made numerous such trips before. It's always great: Single rider lines for a number of big attractions and doing what you want to do at your own pace are two good reasons for it. Also, you are never truly alone at DL. Plenty of people to talk to all the time, be it on line or your friendly CMs while buying stuff and such.

Lots of people here have done it, and really had a great time. I don't think I could though. I'd miss my family too much, and would probably get lonely!

If we lived there locally, and I went for a day trip, I could probably do that. Or if I was there on business and stopped in for some fun, that would be okay I think. But I couldn't plan a trip just for me.

I went solo in Sept and will be going again end of June. It has it's advantages. I got loneley on the last day. You get more done because you dont have to make group decisions. It was also cheaper

I did this a couple of weeks ago for one day and had the BEST time! I was there from before open til after close, ate when I wanted to, rode what I wanted to, and met lots of nice people.

It was a very different experience from bringing my toddler!

I would highly recommend it to any DL lover. :)

Yes, and YES!

I love touring the parks by myself. I get to do what I want, when I want. I can obsess over the little insider details without boring the non-disney fanatics.

If you are a Disney lover I think you will have a great time! Go and enjoy. Maybe do one of the special tours they do. (I did the Walk in Walt's footsteps tour way back then.)

I really enjoyed my quick solo trip in January! I missed my family, but they didn't WANT to go, and they had a grand time together.

I think it does help that I traveled quite a bit alone until I was 31 and met DH, so I'm VERY used to it. I have no problems eating alone, even at a sit-down place, and have no qualms about reading a book while eating or waiting in line; in other words, I can amuse myself when I otherwise might be chatting with my family, so I think it's easier for me to be alone than it is for others (for instance, most of my friends would never do such a thing).

Molly,
I just wanted to say I enjoyed reading your solo trip report!

I would love to have the chance to do it solo, but am not sure that will ever happen.

Hugs,
Lisa

Although our DL vacations have always been as a family, my DH lets me have my 'mommy time' on a couple of the afternoons. He'll take the kids swimming, and I can have my time to do whatever! It's great. That's usually when I buy some surprise gifts to give the kids when we get home :) You should do it...I especially love that it's at your own pace, and every decision is yours to make :thumbsup2

Walking around Disneyland alone is surreal for me, so it increases the "magic" feeling. I could do a whole day easy alone with my camera--and love every second of it. :cloud9:

Even when I have gone with my husband, I have gone out by myself for at least part of the day. I take my camera and enjoy the time. It's a fun relaxing time and I enjoy it!

going tomorrow--but meeting up with some other Dis-ers on Monday!

I did it once when I was younger, unmarried, no kids. I had a great time. I wish I could do it again and get to do everything I want to do and never need to step into Toontown.
