Anybody going this weekend that can report back to this thread while there?

If you happen to swing by Royal Hall (where you meet the princesses) and see that both Snow White AND Ariel are there, can you report back asap? I've been trying to get some artwork signed by both of them but either only one is there or none at all. Rather have both there just so I can kill two birds with one stone; I always feel awkward interacting with them so I rather do less of it if I can lol.

Thanks!

I’ve never known a Disney park to be like this. Even in January. I’ve been at DL on rainy days and it’s been way way busier then this. We can’t believe our luck!

Enjoy this! I've been during "slow" times also. And these wait times are AMAZING! I just hope that Galaxy's Edge just keeps drawing all the people once reservation times are over with. That would be awesome!

Hello all!

wdwfan22 & Tink1987, I saw your messages and I immediately drove to the park... you were NOT kidding! The place was like empty! Most wait times were less than 20-30 minute (including RSR at some point)!

Anyways, I got my autographs so thank you guys SO MUCH for helping me out! :goodvibes

The wait times yesterday and today have been practically non existant. Oh how I wish I was there. It's Crazy!
A friend was there for SWL opening day and told me crowds were great. I’ve heard that from others, too. I leave for the park in about 20 mins. Hopefully that continues today :-). A few people have asked me to grab new park maps that include SWL. I aim to grab a few.

Anyone following along with wait times today? It’s 9:30am and Peter Pan shows a 20 min wait. Matterhorn looks to be walk on.... guys I wanna go to disneyland right now so bad!!

Sidenote: someone in the parks division is gonna have to tell Iger SWGE opening weekend stats. I don’t envy that person their job...

Now to wait and see how the crowds are when GE is open to everyone. Man I hope this happens again.

I got home from the park about 45 minutes ago. Crowds were absolutely fantastic! Disney has managed this magnificently. Toad had a slightly delayed opening but we were first on it. Alice had a relatively short line. After that, we did three rounds of Buzz and walked over to Pirates. It was about 9:30 and it was an absolute walk-on. HM after that was the same. I'll compose a separate post/report that provides more detail later. It was an... unusual day.

I’m not sure what you mean. Were crowds or something not up to expectations or something? It seems to me like they had things planned and everything went perfectly. I wonder if they consider these first few weeks “beta testing.” Once SWL opens to the public, that’s when I suspect things will get a little... rambunctious ;-).

I can’t imagine management is happy running the park at max capacity hours and full(ish- real fireworks aren’t back until Fri I think?) entertainment with all their crowd control projects completed only to get lower crowds than have been seen in a couple years. Disney hotels are reported to have rooms available across the board for the next couple weeks (I played around with dates and even the standard rooms at Paradise Pier are still available for what random days I plugged in). If I were in charge of bringing in profits for Disneyland I would be in a panic worrying I had 3 more weeks of this ahead of me. There are 2 reports today that local hotels have dropped prices for the next couple weeks where the people rebooked and saved over 20%. I have no doubt Disney and the local hotels anticipated much higher turnout this weekend.

As for my quip about Iger- I couldn’t resist ;) SWGE is his baby, he’s a self-confessed SW geek & this is pretty much his Parks legacy. I wouldn’t want to tell the big boss his baby led to the lowest park attendance & hotel capacity rates DLR has seen since X date but we hope it will get better soon! Unless it is just the parks running more efficiently than ever in which case there is nothing to worry about- but the hotel capacity is what is convincing me it is not.

Obviously you are correct the rubber meets the road when the Reservation system goes offline in a few weeks. I look forward to your reports this summer as all this shakes out!!

I actually agree with you. Ghost town conditions are great for the guests, but not so much the shareholders. I suspect Disney is pleased with the reviews SWGE is getting this weekend, and extremely disappointed (panicked?) in the overall park attendance numbers.

Skygirl called it though. Anyone who wants to see SWGE but doesn’t have a reservation obviously isn’t going until June 24 or later. And anyone who didn’t want to see SWGE also didn’t want to be there with the “crazy” crowds. The first condition will obviously change on June 24 when the reservation system ends. I think the second condition won’t. APs being blocked out also has to be playing a role. I suspect we won’t really know how SWGE impacts attendance until possibly next summer when there aren’t so many limitations on access and the perception of “newness” at SWGE has worn off.

I think its a little hasty to judge the whole reservation period based on this weekend. As more and more schools let out in the next week or two things will pick up somewhat. I've been trying to grab a standard view room at PPH for June 20-22 for several days and the only availability is a 1bd suite (at $900/nt). DLH is sold out those dates. GCH does seem to have decent availability but I just can't stomach the cost. I think I'm resorting to booking the first night and hoping the second opens up at some point. It seems once we get later in June its not looking quite so wide open. I'm seeing numerous people on here booking last minute trips during the reservation period too. Word will get around...

I just booked a last minute trip for Thursday night at the Disneyland Hotel. Paradise Pier was sold out that night. It wasn't cheap, but we will be somewhat in the area and thought we should take advantage of the reservation period and--hopefully--lighter crowds. Our planned trip is July 2-4 and I'm nervous about what happens when the floodgates open. Biggest negative with this last minute trip for us is that we will likely buy Signature Plus APs as we have another trip in December over Christmas. These couple days will probably push us over the edge to make it "worth it."

I doubt anyone is panicked about lack of crowds. There is value in things going well. What’s the number one complaint about Disneyland? Crowds. I bet everyone here knows at least one person who has said “I don’t want to go” or “I don’t like it because it’s too crowded”. Assuming the reservation period continues to be a smooth experience, it’s something that people will remember for years. For years to come you’ll have thousands of people spreading the word about how “the GE opening was actually really great and easy - Disney knows what they are doing”. That is good will that has real value that’ll last a long time.

I'll bet that "ghost-town conditions" will disappear once SWL opens to the general public and whatever losses were incurred will be recovered in a short time. They'll end the year up. Certainly shareholders have been pleased with DIS for at least the past year :-).

If I recall I believe Disney said on their last earnings call that they were increasing tickets prices to help battle crowds since that was their number one issue and it didn't have any other clear or easy way to manage (other than putting a hard limit on amount of tickets sold). Maybe that's working.... this would be a win twice over; Disney would be making more money per person on entrance and guests would be happier overall. Of course this doesn't count the families that have been priced out of going, but those usually aren't factored into results on their operation :P

You would think that if it was reservations for Star Wars that the hotels would be booked full since they still have a reservation for each room AND that is now the only way to get into Star Wars before the end of the month. I'm more curious if there is an initial hold back hoping the second attraction comes online fairly soon.

I both seriously want the second attraction to be running by October (I'll be there end of October), but at the same time I would LOVE if some or all my week days there had wait times of like 30 minutes or less for everything!
