Disney is out of the question for us this year but I was thinking of planning a small trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire in June. Has anyone gone on vacation in this area? If so, where did you stay? We have a ds who's three. I was planning on going to Storyland and Clark's Trading Post. Ever been to these places? Thanks for any input :D !

We go to the White Mountains every summer. Storyland is so cute, as is Santa's Village, which is in Jefferson, I believe. I've never been to Clark's Trading Post. We always stay at the Red Jacket in N. Conway, its great for families, they have lots of stuff to do there. Feel free to PM me if you want more info!:D

I think Conway has the cog railway, which is very fun. The White Mountains are beautiful! It has been a long time since I've been there.

We lived in Maine, so North Conway was a day trip to us, it only took us about an hour to get there.

The White Mountains of NH is one of my all time favorite places. Here are some photos I took when we lived up there!

Here are the White Moutains in May, with snowy peaks! Yes, that is the car I drove at the time...I loved that car!

We are a 1 1/2 hrs drive away from the White Mountains so we made alot of day trips there. I haven't been to Storyland in a million yrs but Clarks is alot of fun. There's also Santa's Village in Jefferson.

We love going to Storyland! We usually stay at the Green Granite Lodge- it is really neat, reasonable rates with indoor and outdoor pools and continental breakfast.

I've been going to storyland and santa's village since I was little... which is a really, really long time.

DD has been going since she was 2. Besides those two attractions, we've enjoyed riding the railroad in N. Conway through the mountains, taking tram rides up the mountains at local ski areas, and hiking some of the easier trails within White Mountain Park.

We've mostly stayed at condos which worked out great, especially when DD was younger. There's tons of them around to chose from.

You'll have a great time!

We're about 45-60 minutes away, we've stayed at the Green Granite also, and breakfast at the Blueberry Muffin is a must...

If you want any specifics, please PM me..I can send you a bunch of stuff.

North Conway, NH is one of our favorite places!! Your little one will LOVE it there. When our kids were little (they are too old now) they loved Storyland, Santa's Village, Clark's,the Conway scenic railroad, and lots of other things. Storyland is very clean and we always had a wonderful time. I am looking right now at a picture we took of our kids at Santa's village years ago with Santa Claus and remembering all the wonderful vacations we had. Even now we still go to North Conway. We spent a great Columbus Day week-end there, shopped, ate and had a ball!! I think you will really enjoy it and it is an afforable vacation.

Have a Wonderful Trip!!!

Pretty area of the country. We have stayed at a place called the Inn at Jackson Village. It was a little north of North Conway, a little south of Mt.Washington, fairly well-located for all there is to do around there. Not far from SantaLand and another thing up there...Libertyland or something...maybe Freedomland????Anyhow, the folks who own the place are nice. It's not a chain, it's sort of an inn, but not old...it actually is a new building, interior entrances to rooms, a big sitting area in the lobby with a fire, nice rooms...really just a nice place. Nice pool too, and a hot tub. I don't recall the price as being outrageous...maybe $129/night.

Cog railway is not worth the cost -- hire a van driver to take you up to the top, I would not recommend driving.

I love the White Mountains, look for a house rental on a lake. There are a lots of great family attractions and hiking galore.

I have been vacationing there for the last 25 years. We have always camped while there except once we stayed in a condo on the Kangamangus Highway. We have done just about everything there is to do. And as much fun as everything is ...the most fun and most precious memories are from the free stuff like hiking up the mountains or walking on the rocks across the river. Tons of fun!! I highly recommend it
PM me if you have any questions :)

year whhen I was young. I still remember the bears at Clarks. Most of the time our visits there were day trips, but we did go to a Camp Ground for 2 weeks once. I wish I knew the name, but I can't remember back that far. I do know that when we were going as kids, we were not thrilled, but now, I and all my sisters remember those times very fondly, and we now want to go back as adults.

Kallison, just wondering why your recommend not driving?

We always drove and never encountered any problems. I wouldn't recommend it with an older vehicle, that's for sure. But if your car is in good shape, there shouldn't be any concerns.

It's the coming back down you have to worry about, wearing out your brake pads, that's why there are so many turn off areas, not only for photo taking, but to give your brakes a rest!

Love North Conway, used to go there all the time. Hated Clark's Trading Post. I hated seeing those poor bears stuck on top of those huge poles. Just broke my heart. :( :(

DH and I stayed at this B&B several years ago and thought it was wonderful. Dinner in their dining room was superb.

I've been there a million times, but the visit that will always stay with me was when we stayed at the Mount Washington Hotel.

It's near everything, and will definitely make your trip a memorable one.

The white Mountains are beautiful and late June is a great time to go!

This is our favorite place to stay. It is in Jackson which is just a few minutes outside of North Conway.... central to everything, but has the feel of being in the wilderness with a GORGEOUS view of the mountains! It also has the nicest bathtubs and the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in.

Don't forget to drive the Kangumungus (spelling is wrong) highway!

:D Thanks to all for your input! We are all set to go from June 5-9 and we will be bringing my MIL along too. I am glad to hear positive reviews of Storyland because it looks perfect for a 3 year old and it's nice to hear from people who have been there. We are also considering Santa's Village for a day too. I also think we will do Conway Scenic Railroad, Clark's trading Post, outlet shopping (of course ;) ), and Heritage NH. Plus I would like to take time for some nice scenic driving. I ordered the Entertainment book for Southern NH and am waiting to get it to see where we should stay. Looking through it online, I think Green Granite was listed as a hotel they give a discount on so we will probably go with that or a place called Eastern Slope Inn. Thanks again!

JMHO

Eastern Slope Inn...while right on the "main drag" of N. Conway, it could use a LOT of updating....
in the scheme of grand old hotels of the White Mountains, I would consider it just an old hotel.

like I said...JMHO....
