Ok, I have 2 inside dogs, Ive always had inside dogs. My 2nd dog, we adopted her through a local rescue group in August. I finally decided to do a foster dog through the rescue group. Since our dog turned out to be so wonderful, I wanted to give back something. I have certain criteria, and they rescue group knows that because of the kids I have and the youngest being 16 months old. So next week we are going to get a Beagle/foxhound mix. She is 2 yrs old, and already fixed. The adoption coordinator said shes always been an outside dog, and is pretty sure she is not house trained. She said sometimes with outside dogs, it could be a very easy transistion for not going to the bathroom in the house as they are use to doing their business outside, but sometimes not. Ive met this dog, and she is very laid back.
So anybody go from an outside dog to an inside dog? How easy or hard was it?

I need a nap. :rotfl: I read the title as "anybody every turn and dog inside out?"

LOL, me too!

As to the question, when Sheena came into our lives she was indoor/outdoor dog. She was my sister's dog and my sister's husband at the time didn't think that dogs belonged inside so she spent a lot of time outside. She did have an accident or 2 when she first came to live with us, but don't know if it was just a matter of adjusting to a new household or that wasn't totally housebroken.

She used to spend a lot of time outdoors, but gradually started preferring to be indoors more and more. Now she pretty much just goes outside to do her business unless it's a real nice day or she has spotted a rabbit or a squirrel in a neighbors yard...

When we got our Buddy we found out that the breeder had kept him outside in a run 24x7. He adjusted to the inside with no problems. He had a couple of accidents, but got the hang of when to ask to go outside. He does still like to go outside and sun himself and will let him do it as long as it is not horribly hot and humid out.

It took our new puppy about 5 minutes to figure out that house living was MUCH better then living in a barn on a farm. She is only 12 weeks old, though. She has done VERY well with house training already. She has only had 2 accidents since we got her 5 days ago and those were both my fault as I wasn't paying attention to her. She already goes and sits by the door to go out. No poop accidents at all and hopefully it stays that way. When she goes outside, she always goes to the same part of the yard to do her job, too.

I have heard good things about the bell training too but I can't hear a bell so we are just going to have to figure something else out.
