As the title allready explains; I'm looking for people that have stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel. They've got a good rate going, which is temping.

However, I'm wondering about the fully handicapped accessible room with roll in shower. Ofcourse I can call the RPH themselves, but I would also love to hear some persnal experiences.

There would be 3 of us adults travelling and staying in one room. Anybody ever done this? What were your experiences, what type of beds did you get (king, queen, double?), did the room fit your needs, how spacious was the room, what was your experience with the complimentary transportation to the parks etcetc. Tell me all! ;)

I stayed there but it was years ago and before kids in wheelchairs so I don't know what their accessible rooms are like. However the hotel was wonderful and I'm not sure about the transportation now but then it was Disney run transportation.

I can't comment on the handicapped room, but my kids and I stayed in an executive suite there one night last August, then moved to the Dolphin. We were going to stay there the whole time - I got a great rate - but DH decided to join us, and I wanted to stay at the Swan or Dolphin. I had a one night nonrefundable deposit, so we used that the first night before DH got there, then moved. I can say I was glad to move, not that it was the worst, just more like a motel atmosphere than Disney.

I would caution that we didn't take the busses, but I've heard that they aren't as speedy as the actual Disney resort ones. Also, the pool was similar to what you'd find at a nice motel or lower quality hotel, like a Days Inn. It was just an overcrowded rectangle - no wheelchair ramp and no lifeguard. It was super busy, and the bar/snack area wasn't even open. It was quite dirty, especially in comparison to Disney hotel pools. It didn't look even remotely doable for a handicapped person. I had to keep a constant eye on the kids, versus at Disney resorts with multiple lifeguards. I had even called ahead of time and was told they have lifeguards - they do not.

The suite was fine for me and my two kids, but I wouldn't share a regular room with two other adults. Just me, I like some space. It was clean enough, and we ordered room service, which was fine. Our room came with free breakfast buffet - I never would have paid for that. It was just okay.

I think if I were travelling with handicapped folks, I'd stay at a Disney resort with a zero entry pool. Many have that. Plus your travel to and from the parks will be much smoother. The bus stop for Downtown Disney hotels is further away from the parks. At Disney, time is money. I am assuming you're not driving to the parks, so if you were, it may make some sense to stay there, if you're not going to use the pool.

I have a dear friend who stayed there recently. She is not disabled but did take the bus transportation and said definitely "never again!". The busses took forever and ran on a time schedule. The pickup areas were far away and she mentioned that if anyone needed a lift bus, good luck as some were broken. This was a recent stay. I have no idea about the accessible rooms and if you have your own transportation then it might be just fine, but a word of caution about the busses. I agree with the above poster that at Disney, time is money.---Kathy

Forgot to add....Royal Plaza does not participate in either DME complimentary transportation to/from the airport or EMH's if those things are important.---Kathy

Thnx for your stories everyone. Sounds like no Royal Plaza for us. Good transportation is a absolute big thing for us, so a disney resort it'll stay! (got reservations at CBR allready).
