My DF bought me a dishwasher 2 years ago that was a consumer reports best. It is stainless steel inside and out. All the belles and whistles expensive KitchenAid.
It is crap.
You have to rinse off all the pots, pans, plates, etc. Whats the point?:confused3

I have seriously thought about when we remodel our kitchen to NOT have a dishwasher and just a large farmhouse sink and do the dishes by hand.
Its just me and DH that live here so why not?

Anybody enjoy not having a dishwasher in there home?:surfweb:

Nope. There's no way I would give up a dishwasher. Not only is it easier than washing by hand, but it uses less water and it's way more hygienic. I like my dishes to be a bit cleaner than you can really get them by hand.

Funny you should mention it! My DH is Korean, and in their house, NO BODY ever used a dishwasher. As a matter of fact, our house in Fort Walton Beach doesn't have one.

We have used the one in our apartment here in Dothan, AL only a handful of times. When my Dad was here to visit we used it more often. DH swears it upped our gas bill by twice the amount it usually is.

We don't normally use one. I can see how in a large family household it would possibly be more convenient, but it also seems to me you pretty much need to wash them first. Unless there is a super duper one out there I haven't heard of yet! ;)

I pretty much just wash a dish right after I use it.

It is a good selling feature if you go to sell your house.....

I still wash some by hand but at holiday times or just spring cleaning time I would not do with out one.

I have a Kenmore and I do not wash or rinse my dishes before putting them in, maybe it is the soap you use?

The months that I'm living up to the lake, DD and her family use the dishwasher here..

When I come back for the winter, I do all of the dishes by hand.. I can get them done faster, cleaner, dried, and put away LONG before the dishwasher cycle ends.. There are also a lot of things that don't "fit" in the dishwasher with the usual amount of dishes that need to be washed (which then requires two loads having to be done rather than one) or they aren't "dishwasher safe".. To me they're a major hassle - and if this were "my" house, the dishwasher would be long gone - LOL..:goodvibes

I have a dishwasher and would not want to give it up, but I will admit to still hand-washing plenty of dishes. I think...well...it's just a few, so I'll do these up by hand. I guess, what is the point of a dishwasher if I end up doing my dishes by hand? :lmao: I do like it for when we fill it up quickly, like when I have company for dinner, or I make a meal with lots of pots/pans.

We do both, but I like the dishwasher better. DH hand washes most everything. He likes to do things the hard way.:rotfl2: I think for resale value I would keep it for sure.

Tried everything on the market. Still have to rinse. :sad2:
We had an old dishwasher that came with this house and it worked like a charm, until it gave up the ghost.:)

I have never had a dishwasher. I prefer to do them by hand! My glasses are crystal clear!:)

I prefer the dishwasher but it currently leaks. Since I just replaced the kitchen faucet, I have to wait till next month to call the repairman. So right now I wash them by hand and put them in the dishwasher to dry!

I agree. I just scrape the major garbage off of plates, but I don't pre-wash like I used to.

I also put everything in the dishwasher - even the really good crystal, china and sterling stuff.

I totally agree with you, guess we're from the old world C.Ann :flower3:!! My kids chuckle at me because my dish washer just takes up wasted space! :rotfl2:

I have a 1 1/2 year old kitchen aid dishwasher that I love. I rarely rinse the dishes first.
However I have noticed that large platters, bigger pots and lids or pots with long handles tend to get in the way of the dishwasher cleaning correctly. They seem to block the water and the spinning spray arm (not sure of the correct name to this piece). So I hand wash these, no big deal and the rest of the dishes come clean every time. Please, if you haven't already, check this out on yours, before you give up.
I don't run my dw every day, just when it's full. I have noticed that melted cheese and guacamole can be a problem for some reason, so I do rinse these first.
Good luck!

You might want a dishwasher for resale? I for one would never buy a house without a dishwasher. :scared1: I put just about everything in the dishwasher. Now my MIL, on the other hand, has a dishwasher but I don't think she ever uses it. She likes to do the dishes by hand too.

I always rinse, but I also rinse them before putting them in the dishwater if I'm handwashing. I don't see a big difference there. The dishwasher is still easier IMO, mainly because I can store away all the rinsed dishes until I have a full load. I don't have to constantly have my hands in dishwater.

First dishwasher we had was the one installed in our newly built house 23 years ago. I used it ONCE and have washed by hand ever since.

DW likes to say that she has the same working dishwasher since the house was built, ME.

I agree. If I had to give up my dishwaser we would be eating off paper plates. I run ours completey full at least twice a day. I like things sterilized and there is no way I am going to wash all those dishes every day.

I wash my hands all the time.

Oh.

Wait.
