Anybody ever been to a Dude Ranch?....in NC?

hmm... it looks inviting! You'll have to let us know if you go! :sunny:

Looks like fun but for $850/night for our family I will pass (heck, Disney is cheaper then that!).

You must have a big family at peak season. We were looking at just over $400 which is still way too much.

went to one in NY

noone else was interested in riding the horses but me-
but the kids LOVED the family games and activities - as well as the pool waterslide!
I didn't look into rates - but if that includes all food your doin good.
I know we were constantly getting more of the soft serve ice-cream

I think it depends on the age of the kids and if they're into horseback riding. We went to one in New York... DS14 absolutely hated it!!!! We left after one night. I have to admit that Disney has us spoiled, but this one was REALLY boring!!

DH & I used to go up to Cataloochee Ranch in Maggie Valley, NC, and it was a similar set up. We absolutley loved it and the only reason we haven't got lately is money. Of course, we could go if we skip disney, but WDW is more accomodating for our special needs than the Ranch is. But if we were'nt taking the kids, we'd go back in a heartbeat.

That isn't too far from where I currently live. Any time of year you choose to go will have something to offer and will be beautiful.

Sorry that I can't tell you anything about a dude ranch but can tell you that you will love this area.

After looking at the website I'm ready to go try it out myself.

Even if you go in the middle of summer and visit the Hemlocks be warned that the water is COLD! When I say COLD I mean cold. On the hottest of summer days when I have been there the water has still been too cold for me. It is refreshing but COLD.

The Hemlocks are beautiful!

Not really, we have 3 kids, but they are all over 5. Non peak season is almost $700/night. Go now while the kids are young :rotfl2: .

We live not too far from you. We did a dude ranch type of vacation last year in New York. We went to Rocking Horse Ranch and the we enjoyed it. It was more of an all-iclusive type vacation with horse and cowboy theme....we weren't rustling cattle out on the range like the movie City Slickers! but anyway, our kids were 4 and 6 at the time and they had a great time.....we enjoyed it also....the horses and riding in the mountains were great!

That sounds like something we would be interested in. TYVM.

Their website is www.rhranch.com

I think our kids were the perfect age for it at the time....I think it might be boring for older kids, but yours are still little ones right? They have childcare too....so when the parents want to ride the advanced trails up into the mountains, the kids can be occupied in the Kids clubs....my kids really enjoyed them.

If you have any questions, let me know. The meals were included in the price.....alcohol was extra. The food was ok....not gourmet by any means.....but you would never go hungry! Buffet for breakfast and lunch......dinner was sit down from a different menu every night with a choice between 4 or 5 entrees, 4 or 5 appetizers, desserts were buffet style.
