"in this economy". Now Im out of work myself but this phrase is everywhere. IMO, it just encourages dispair.

Yes I am sick of it. Other phrases I am sick of.

It is what is is. o' really thanks for that, it explains nothing.

and when retired people say.

I hope they don't raise the rent "I am on a fixed Income".

You are, well glory bee, I think most people are, when they raise my rent I can't go and ask the boss for extra money, so I guess I'm on a fixed income too.

just had to vent.

Not really. The economy is still extremely bad for many people, especially here in Michigan which I think still has the highest unemployment.

I'm tired of thinking about it, but there's no escaping that. I just about threw something at the TV this morning while some 6-figure salary talking head made sympathtic noises about the lack of opportunities for new graduates. But we're riding it out fairly well so I'm not going to sit back and complain about the attention being focused on those who aren't. But for the grace of God...

Same here and we are right up there with you or over in regards to unemployment numbrs......I used the phrase just the other day when a couple of the employees who actually were getting some overtime were whining about wanting a raise........

I guess instead of saying In this economy....I could have said Be glad you have a job....

I am sick of the phrase "no worries." Drives me absolutely insane. All the young uns at work say it all the time. Who started that and why did they start it??????

I saw no worries all the time, don't know how it started but I say it.
I also say in this economy, probably because I lost a good job because of the economy (company decided it was paying me too much and they could pay someone else half what they paid me) so I say it. NV has the highest UE rate right now (14.4), MI is second (13.1%) and CA is third (12.4%). The economy right now is terrible, I've been looking for work since June and I've had 2 interviews, out of over 100 resumes submitted, for jobs that fit my skill set perfectly, I've had 2 interviews. Oh and a reply from a scammer trying to steal my identity. Wow that makes me feel good. lol

Oh and those numbers are from cnbc, not sure how accurate they are but they are from 2010. :)

I don't like the phrase "no worries" either. Or "sad day"

I'm sick of it, too. I have no doubt that many people have truly suffered "in this economy", but within my circle of friends and family there are those who blame the "economy" for their woes rather than take responsibility for creating their own financial mess. They are now experiencing the consequences of years and years of financial irresponsibility, but it's really the fault of "the economy". :rolleyes1

Can we add "my bad" and "on the same page" to the list?

More sick of dealing with it than I am over hearing about it. And my extended family is fortunate enough to be fully employed right now. I cant imagine the frustration that those who have been out of work feel. I keep hoping that we will see a spark soon.

Well I certainly wish it would change for all of the millions of people who are out of work or have been impacted by it in one way or another, but until it does, what other phrase can we use in place of it? :confused3

Something to think about.. Anyone have any suggestions? :)

And THAT is the worst! Unless you have a money tree in your back yard, you are on a fixed income! Those retired folks also do not have to pay for braces, sports equipment, college tuition and often mortgages.

I think "in this economy" is far better than the phrase I keep hearing, "the new normal". It's much better to think "this economy" will improve instead of the situation being the longer term or permanent "new normal."

I agree. Economies wax and wane. The "new normal" reminds me of the "malaise" and the "misery index" of the past.

I think you can all blame Disney for 'no worries' - Hakuna Matata!

Not for me, for me I think it was Australian related...but I can't remember if it was my friend who went to Aus came back saying it or if our friends who have parents from Aus started it....lol

Oh, that one really gets under my skin too! I think it bothers me more because I see a grain of truth in it, and not just because it goes against my generally optimistic nature.

Many Seniors are on a fixed income - due to the constraints of social security they can't go out and get another job or they have their retirement funds projected to last them "hopefully" until they no longer need them. I don't view my set income like I do someone who is retired and a senior.

I can go out and get another job.....well, maybe not in this economy here in my area ;)
