Back in the end of September (2016), literally the second day IASW reopened from refurb. Me and my family noticed something...there was basically no coins in the bottom of the ride water. There was maybe 3 dollars worth all in change in there instead of the usual glistening coin bottom. So I am guessing the refurb also cleared out the coins....
We went in October 2015 and it was completely full of coins.

Haven't really seen any threads on this and just wanted to see if other people noticed it.

they commonly do that time to time, they do mess with the operation of the ride if enough are in there. not to mention react with the water. I forget where on the website but disney has posted they donate it to charity.

I'm expecting the roof to BTMR to also be cleaned up of that change (ever notice it?) when that reopens.

Oh I know they need to clean it from time to time. That was just the first time in all of our trips we noticed it. I was hoping they donated it but couldn't find any hard evidence on it..yet!
I am ready for the hair ties to be cleared from EE!!!!!!

I can't find where on the website it mentions it but time to time you see some article on someone getting a surprise check for the coins wished into the WDW fountains and other things. I think it was 2014 they donated $18000 to a foster care program and that was only the coins in the fountains.

Even if they don't donate it, I don't mind that. They give millions to local charities, make a wish and do some special things. I don't mind the wish change going into the corporate pool, it's not like disney isn't helping out at all and their donations are much more than the coins collected.

I remember seeing quite a few by 2nd week of October when we went.
I'm more curious as to whats up with all the pony tail holders at the "broken track" on EE.....

I never really understood the proclivity to throw coins into any water feature like that. I mean, the wishing well or a fountain sure, that makes senst, but into the ride track? I am glad the money goes to a good cause though. They must scrape out a ton!

All money is used for children's organizations in central Florida. Perfect

Thanks for posting
So that means they average around $50/day.
If everyone (which we know doesn't happen) tossed in a quarter, that's 200 a day or 5000 pennies.
Given the number of people who visit wdw, that's not much really and I would have guessed more then 18k but everyone little bit helps and it's nice to see it is helping those in need

I always wonder if any Guests "grab" the paper money left at the Buddha in The House Of Good Fortune in China!lol:)

But the cost and effort of getting all the money out seems counter productive as well. If you want to make a wish, drop coins in a wishing well, if you want to donate to charity then do so. But people throwing coins into places where coins shouldn't be is just littering really.

The hair tie thing is also a big deal on the ski lift at BB. I always think about bringing some underwear to throw up there. Some people might get a laugh out of a banana hammock being there.

They didn't have a problem when I threw a few coins in the water on IASW. It was when I threw all of Uncle Joe's ashes over the side that brows were raised.

I was there last week and did notice coins in the water. Obviously, not as many as in the past since I am sure they collected them during the refurb, but people have started adding to pool again and I am sure it will build back up in no time.
