My daughter and I have been taking Disney cruises since she was 5. We went on an alaskan cruise with another cruise line and my then 6 year old said she would never take another cruise again unless it was Disney. So as you can imagine being a single dad that is what we did. After meeting a very special lady, she talked us into going on another cruise with the other cruise line. Needless to say we were even less impressed on this cruise. After I married the special lady, I wanted to show her what she was missing by cruising on the cheap cruise so I booked us a Disney cruise concierge level. The excellent Disney service started long before we boarded. We received calls from the onshore concierge team about our up and coming cruise. They were extremely helpful with planning every activity we were interested in doing. At the last minute, I developed and injury which required me to use a wheel chair. All the plans then changed. So we asked our older daughter to join us on the cruise to help push the wheel chair. We contacted the onshore concierge team again and informed them. NO PROBLEM is what they said and took care of all the changes. Upon arrival that the terminal we were immediately directed to the concierge check in desk. After spending about 10 minutes checking in (that included the wait in the extremely short line) we were directed to the concierge seating area to wait to board the ship. We did not know what time to arrive at the terminal so we were there at about 11 am and on board before 12. During boarding of the ship, we were announced and then escorted to the concierge lounge. There we met our concierge team and they went over our itinerary. They also informed us that they would handle any and all requests and or problems that should arise during our cruise. We enjoyed light sandwiches and drinks while we spoke and then were shown to our stateroom. Now at this time I had overly impressed my new bride as well as our 2 daughters. My youngest daughter, who was now 9, wanted to know why this was the first time traveling like this. At this point, I was using a wheel chair but only when I was too tired from walking with a cane. Most of the shore excursions, I stayed on the ship while my family went ashore. We would meet somewhere onshore at a predetermined time and walk the shopping areas. The day before we were to arrive at castaway cay, I was talking with one of the concierge staff about how much I liked fishing and was disappointed that I had to cancel the fishing trip I had booked because of my injury. He asked if I still wanted to go and I said yes but they were all booked up. In about 30 minutes he had tickets for me and my daughter to fish. We arrived at castaway cay and disembarked the ship to find a golf cart and driver waiting for us. He drove us the short distance from the gangplank to the charter boat and informed us to call him when we needed a ride back to the ship. It was a great day fishing with just my daughter and I. Our last night we were given a time when to disembark and were to meet up with our luggage. After a great cruise we thanked everybody and went home. I was on the way home I was informed that from now on we would be sailing concierge. I put up a fight (just for show) but it is really worth the extra money. This year we are taking our grand kids on their first cruise. Our 2 year old can't wait to get on the "DIZ BOAT". She is trying her hardest to get potty trained so she can enjoy the pools. (great motivation). We watch you-tube videos of the activities but the one she loves is the 2 Disney ship blowing the horns. I have a feeling this if I tried to book a Disney cruise without concierge, there will be a mutiny. If you are on the edge about whether or not to go concierge my suggestion is do it. It will be the greatest cruise you have been on, the concierge team will make sure of that.

Sounds like you had a great time. Have I ever sailed on another cruise line, yes we did, but that was before kids and before Disney. After once sailing Disney, me and the Mrs. said, "what kidney do I need to sail to do this again?" And its been Disney ever since.

We did Concierge twice and weren't impressed because we essentially never used the extra services they could provide. The first time we did it was to see what it was like. The second time was so my mom could experience it, but she ended up canceling and we were stuck with it.

While it wasn't anything special for us, it sounds like the team came through for you and made your trip magical:).

I will say for the other line, we have had great luck and it was equal to DCL in our eyes, but we also aren't Disney people, DCL was just our first cruise line we sailed.

Welcome!

I have not sailed Concierge yet. Maybe one day. While you had some needs that helped out on this. I expect this class of service generally for every class of passenger.

That's hysterical! Yes, we've sailed concierge 4 out of 6 DCL cruises and have another DCL cruise scheduled for March. Initially, I wanted to save some money and I booked a verandah stateroom, but woke up one morning and realized we would far more enjoy sailing concierge, so I snagged the last Cat V on the cruise. I had been trying to switch a Remy reservation with no luck, but after I switched to Cat V, one e-mail took care of the Remy switch. When we sailed concierge on the Magic in Europe, the concierge team on that ship could pull some major strings in terms of waiting in line for passport control and excursions - that alone made it worth the cost on the European cruises.

Once the cruise was over and we were in our car headed back home to Orlando, we have never felt like we paid too much for our concierge experience.

I will say that if we could definitely get a cabana on the family beach for a cruise, I could handle a family veranda room now and again. LOL

My favorite part of Summer opening day is looking at concierge prices on the longer European cruises. Amazingly they sell out. There's some high rollers on DCL.

If I were to do concierge, it would only be at one of the royal suites on Dream/Fantasy and just for bucket list purposes. But first I need to win the lottery... In the mean time, inside cabin will do :)

What a great story! :thumbsup2

Not concierge, but back in 1995 DH wanted to take a cruise for our honeymoon (this was pre-DCL). I didn't think I would like cruises from what little I had heard about them but agreed as long as we went to WDW too. Well, 22 cruises later (19 of them DCL) and 2 more booked for this summer, I think DH may regret introducing me to cruising. :goodvibes

You captured some of the reasons we enjoy sailing concierge and why that is the only way we prefer to sail now :) Totally worth the cost to us (and yes, I realize to some this seems a waste of money but not to me).

We are taking our first cruise this summer. It will be in a concierge room on the Magic. So, it sounds like it will be a dangerous precedent. I can't wait!

It really really is. For us? We cannot imagine sailing any other way now.

I remember the first time DCL offered the British Isle's cruise. It was a pretty long cruise (maybe 10-12 days??), and the WD Suite was going for around $60K. There was a frequent British poster on here at the time that posted that he'd personally drive a family around, cover all their lodging and be their own tour guide for half that. It cracked me up. But I have no doubt that the Magic sailed with all the suites filled. While it would never be worth it for me, it's completely worth it to some. Good for them.

I'm sure if your making in the millions every year it's no big deal. I've seen a couple of MLB players on board and one NHL player.

Well... Good luck dealing with hedonistic adaptation. ;)

All jokes apart, on the bright side, I keep reading that other cruise lines give you more in Concierge for less money so maybe you'll save money when your daughter outgrow Disney.

Were you sailing concierge on the cheap cruise line?
