OKay so im a woos, these last few hours I've started to feel slightly nervous, concerning our impending trip to florida, and all that is going on in Iraq.

I've said all along that the only thing that would stop me from going to WDW is if Virgin ground the planes!.

Im the worlds worst at flying (a right gibbering wreck), and im starting to feel very nervous and apprehensive, especailly after the homemade bombs were found in Crawley today near to Gatwick airport.

Im trying to keep positive for DH/DS but underneath im quite scared, I know some would say, dont let people like sadaam win, but how does everybody else feel?

Right now, with all the uncertainty about what is going to happen, it is not surprising you are feeling insecure.

I think if you get apprehensive about flying before your trip under normal circumstances, the general uncertainty and concern that we are all feeling is bound to increase your worries.

In the next days and weeks before your trip, hopefully the situation will be clearer.

Remember that should there be an increased danger to going abroad, we would be advised of this by the Foreign Office but it is unlikely for that to happen for USA.

Jules,

I am terrified of flying. In fact, I am terrified of everything and have been all my life. In times like this, in a peculiar way, it's a bonus. I shall be no more or no less terrified during my flight in May than I've ever been and so it won't prevent me from going. I suppose I'm at odds with Shirley on this - my fear can't be any greater. My usual fear may be irrational, but a 'real' threat can't make that fear worse.

Do I feel that I'm putting myself at risk by flying? Yes. Do I feel that I'm putting myself at greater risk by flying out of the UK into the US? Yes. Am I prepared to let this fear alter my plans and affect my life? No.

Ask yourself this. Was the threat to your life any less before September 11/George Bush's declaration of war on Iraq? I would say, no. You just have much more information and knowledge now than you did previously.

Jules, we would be fool-hardy people indeed if we didn't give at least a moments thought to the possible risks of travelling in the current climate - especially as most of us are travelling with our children.

However, to be a repetative, unless the FO tells us not to fly to the US or they ground the planes we'll be on our flight in May. That seems unlikely.

Most people I talk to who are travelling at the moment take a fatalistic attitude which is 'when your time has come....' We all must remember the story of the young man who survived 9/11 only to be on the American Airlines planes that crashed in New Jersey - God rest his soul.

I think Deb made a very salient point. I don't believe the risk is any greater than it was previously either, it's just since 9/11 we have more information and are more aware.

And if you're feeling wobbly you can always come here for a virtual G&T :)

I think Debbie has summed it up pretty well - the risks have always been there, they have always been very low, and they continue to be low, it's just now we are talking about them more.

I am also the worlds worst flyer, but dont feel any worse than usual about our trip in June.

I try to keep things in perspective....we have lost several friends recently, to illness, and none of them knew they were even sick. I read every day in our local paper that at least one person has been killed on the roads. If I didnt suffer 9 hours on a plane, then I would have missed out on some of the best times of my life so far, and much as I hate it, I will endure the flight again. Last year I was pregnant and couldnt even take my usual conncotion of alcohol and pills to numb the fear (not reccomended, honestly)!!!:o

Im usually OK once the Seatbelt sign has clicked off and we are on our way. I could however, happily do WITHOUT those AWFUL cameras they mount on the exterior of the plane which show you everything in far too much detail!!

Jules -we flew out nine days after Sept 11 and I'm not great at this flying thing too.

In fact I was so determined that nothing was going to stop me_I felt much more brave.

In fact when I go back in May -it will be my 7th visit since Sept 11 and I have been back a month since our last visit in Februaury.

I would honestly go back tomorrow. The security at Sanford was brilliant and have no qualms about flying over there-honestly!
