Anybody been to the outlet mall lately?

Neither of those articles state that LV is being made in China. I lurk in handbag forums fairly regularly and I've never seen an authentic LV piece made that was made in China, nor could I find any info in a google search.

When I bought my LV bag at the store in Frankfurt, I asked about this. I was assured by the manager (who spoke excellent English) that nothing in their store for sale was made in China. It is not partially made there and sent back to Europe for final finishing. I believed him especially since the store was fill with Far Easterners buying like they would never see LV again. I do get alot of my LV bag doesn't look like yours and my response is always the same "that is because mine is real".

In post #37 I put up a link directly to LV's website where they identify where their leather goods are made. China isn't one of the places.

Thanks Purseval - I did see your post but found the one from MickeyDisneyFan so odd that I wanted to chime in too. Dealing with vintage bags is part of my everyday job and I'm used to hearing a lot of misconceptions. I wanted to make sure that people didn't think that this was the case. :)

They can make them on the moon as long as they maintain the same quality control and so far there hasn't been anything to show otherwise. Coach, etc., combine Chinese labor with cheap materials to make an inferior product for a premium price. If LV wishes to save money on labor as long as they don't sacrifice quality that's a business decision on their part. If the quality drops and they cheapen their brand reputation that would be an unfortunate step and maybe the next one would be to see LV outlet stores. That hasn't happened.

"The Louis Vuitton Leather Goods collections are produced in our workshops located in France, Spain and the United States"

That is from today on the LV website as opposed to your 2007 article.

Believe what you want from the company's website. The article I posted was from the NY Times. There isnt some old Italian craftsman putting the bags together anymore. You are getting a mass produced bag made on an assembly line by Chinese workers in sweatshops.

People dont want to believe that they are paying top dollar for a product assembled in sweatshops, which doesnt mean its bad just not what most people think they are buying.

BANGALORE/NEW DELHI: Didn’t we say India rocks the world? The venerable French luxury goods giant Louis Vuitton, part of the $17-billion Moet

Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) group, is setting up its first manufacturing plant in Asia at Pondicherry through a joint venture, sources said.

LV — best known for its expensive and edgy bags — has identified the Dilip Kapur-owned Hidesign, the domestic high-end leather goods brand, as its JV partner. The greenfield venture, likely to be a 50:50 JV, is expected to come up in a 30-acre plot in the Union territory.

Following the visit of the senior board members late last year, LV decided on Pondicherry as the location for its manufacturing base in Asia (mostly for leather products). Sources said the toss-up for the plant location was either India or Vietnam. Unlike Prada or Gucci, LV has opted for India. It is learnt that LV is working towards putting the plant on stream within this year. "

Sorry I was wrong not China, they are made in India.

I never mentioned anything about vintage bags, they are worth the cash as they are made to last and not in a sweatshop like the new ones are.

The article you posted was from 2007 and discussed plans. It uses words like "likely", "soon" and "expected" I can't find any information about these plans past 2008. No news about it actually being in production.

I recently went to talbots outlet when they had there additional 30%off sale and got my niece a lace and silk dress for $5 from original price of $350, a cotton pointelle detailed dress for $7 from $250, a cashmere scarf for $4 from $80 and some beautiful shoes with silk roses and crystals for $14 from $250 I got a bunch of other things but I think those where the best deals for the day.
I think its how you shop and when you shop. I never go to outlets expecting to find something and I never go when I need something specific. I go to outlets to shop for fun and if I find a great deal that's great if not not.
