We are in the early stages of planning a trip to England and Ireland in June 2005. We plan on staying in London for 3 days. What are some good hotels? I am really excited about this if we get to go. My mom is Irish so we get to explore our heritage.:cheer2:

Honestly...whenever I go to London or any big city in UK, the first place I go to is the train station.

They have little booths that can find the cheapest, or best hotel for you.

I would suggest staying in the outskirts of town, (it is HUGE, and driving there is insane) near one of the tube stops. There's also a nice Travelodge by the Gatwick airport, with the "Gatwick express" train that runs to downtown London pretty cheaply.

That's my input!

I'd like the answer to this also... but VH I'm looking for more of a 3-4* recommendation. And must have a private bath.

BTW do you live near a airport that is a hub for an airline? You will be able to get a flight to London that is nonstop.

I live an hour from London and go to London quite a few times a year to see west end shows. I always book my hotels on expedia.co.uk they have great deals on London hotels, tell you where the hotels are, what they are near to, and information about the hotel itself with pictures. Rememebr on this site the prices are per room not per person.
I agree to make sure you stay near a tube station. If you want a true London experience I would stay nearer the centre on London where the action is. The hotels may be more expensive here (and London is very expensive!) but I think they are worth it. I personally like to stay in the Raddison hotels in London. They are nice hotels (4 star usually) and are in good locations.

Try the Gore. It's got loads of English charm and isn't too
expensive. If you only have 3 days-staying IN London is a must. That way you can savor the nightlife that abounds. We loved
the Jack the Ripper pub walk!! "London Walks" is a great tour
company btw.

I stayed at the Copthorne Tara in Kensington. It was very nice, maybe a little more on the pricey end, but just around the corner from the tube.

I would echo Bonzo's suggestion and put a topic on the UK boards, there are a lot of people that will try to help you. If you do a little research you'll find a few topics on there that have asked these questions before.

I would look into something like Expedia to get a decent deal, June is quite a nice time of year to visit London, but even so there will be plenty of competition from the hotels for your business. You should get some good deals. I would suggest staying reasonably near the centre of London, IMHO staying out near the airport would cost more in train fares ($25-30 per person per day) to get in and out of London that you'd be saving in room costs and you'd be spending 2-3 hours travelling each day.

Things to do when you're there . Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Jack the Ripper walk, Hampton Court Palace. I think the Chelsea flower show may be around that time of year ( there's also one at Hampton Court Palace), Covent Garden, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathederal and Westminster Abbey
