Anybody been publically criticized for the way they parent?

That woman was way out of line. I got mad just reading about her.

FWIW, DS used a bink until way past his 2nd birthday. The only reason he quit was because he lost them one-by-one and I decided not to buy anymore. Nice, straight teeth, by the way. (Needs to work on brushing, though.)

I have never had anything said to me that stands out, but I do know that I WANTED to say something to a woman in the mall last week. But I kept my mouth shut, and shook my head in disbelief instead.

I was coming out of Yankee Candle, and a woman was standing in the middle of the hall talking to a police officer in full uniform. She had a little bugger, who was probably getting a little impatient, listening to mom talk. He was about 4, not doing anything out of the ordinary, ttrying to pull away from him mom, and she had to keep pulling him in. As I passed them I hear her say, " Stephen, STOP...you better behave or I will have Uncle Brian arrest you!"

:earseek: Yeah lady, let's teach the kid how to be afraid of police officer's. Not every police officer is the kid's uncle. :confused3

:confused3 Why would somebody do that to their kid?

People are strange. I used to work in a chocolate shop and we also sold a specialty coffee line (which we almost always had out for sampling, with sugar/Equal and faux creamer). Once, a woman came in with her child who was probably 3-4 years old. The child saw Mommy get a sample cup of coffee and started begging for his own. So what did Mommy dearest do? She opened like 7 or 8 of the non-dairy creamers, dumped them into a cup and gave it to the kid to drink. Yuck. :crazy2:

I also cannot bring myself to ask parents HOW on earth they can let their kid suck on a bottle of milk that is god knows how warm. :crazy2: That disgusts me personally, but hey..their kid, their choice I suppose.

Now I have some snappy comebacks if somebody ever asks me why Bugs has a bump/bruise. He is 110% boy and is ALWAYS bumping into things. And you're right..you can't watch them all the time.

DH let him roll off the couch and we freaked.
I let him pull a wooden tray table onto his head and I freaked.
I also let him wander barefoot into an antmound and get his feet completely eat up. I freaked more than you will EVER know.

But hey..he's doing alright. I hope. ;) We won't know until we get the therapy bills later. :rotfl2:

Thanks. I have to admit I normally would not have said anything so creative, probably just a "Yes, obviously I have seen the large bruise on my daughter's head, but thanks for the concern." I was particularly snappy last week though, possibly cause I was in such a rush to get things done that day or cause I've been a single mom for the past month while my husband's been interviewing (though he came home tonight!!) and we all know what spending time with only a toddler will do to you!

Oh and we freaked out big time over the first few injuries. That head into the marble table thing was a big time panic attack-we almost went to the ER for that one. Luckily she had no teeth yet (yes, I know, 13 months old and toothless!) and it was her mouth that primarily hit the table so we figured she was okay. Now she hardly reacts when she gets hurt, unless it's a big thing, so we don't either. And oh yeah, Madison had a pacifier till she was 16 months old, when she gave it up on her own. If she hadn't given it up then, she'd still have it today.

Okay, LOVE the YOSI acronym. I am going to have to incorporate that one! As for that woman, I am sadly not surprised! I have had my share of comments from random strangers. Justthat, the comment about tripping your DD totally cracks me up. Don't think I would been able to keep a straight face for that one. Good for you!

As for the pacifier, DD had hers until the morning of her 4th bday. After she was two, only in the car or in bed. After about 2.5 only in bed. She got up in the morning on her 4th bday and threw all the nuks in the trash. We had all the dire warnings about teeth too, even from her pediatrician, but I figured she was inheriting such awful teeth genes from DH that it really didn't matter. Her baby teeth came in way crooked. Then her permanent teeth were even worse when they came in. Funny thing is that at her last dentist appt, the dentist commented on how her teeth were so straight and she seriously doubted DD would ever need braces. (New dentist so she hadn't see what they looked like before.)
