We have been wanting to add on for quite a while. We are finally ready and the promotions right now are horrible!

We don't want to wait too long because I am worried the prices will increase again. Does anyone have any ideas on when or what the next add on promotion will be? Should we wait it out a little while or should we just bite the bullet and buy now?

We are looking to buy 100 points at AKV. We considered resale, however, we want the full benefits.

Thanks:) I saw that thread before I posted this one and no one responded about promotions, the whole discussion has been about the booking windows and availability. That is why I started this thread. I was hoping someone would respond.

Disney only offers incentives when they need to and right now they are going through a reset of some kind. It could be related to their new head of DVD/DVC or some other reasons. They have become very quiet and their latest new resort at the Grand Floridian is almost on hold and it has been for a few months.

Somethings up, we just don't know what it is.

We just did an add on at AKV we got a percentage off per point and then a $500 disney gift card. We were thinking of waiting too but decided to just do it and the $500 will be good towards our APs

Our guide called us just today about this exact offer. We didn't have the heart to tell him about our resale in ROFR, he'll find out soon enough. Actually it is a pretty good incentive package, as incentives have been pretty slim lately. 100 point add on, incentives are $10 off pp + $500 gift card. Offer expires March 14, 2012.

Congrats on your add-on!!!

Thank you! I haven't contacted my guide recently, I was just watching the pricing on the internet...I think I will give him a call! Thanks!

Any ideas on when Grand Floridian goes on sale? I hope they have good incentives when it does.

We stopped in at an open house 2 weeks ago at BWV and the guide there said there is still nothing until 2013. Apparently the construction has been on 'hold'.

just make sure you've done your homework as the "full benefits" are virtually worthless.

Well, that is a matter of opinion and if the OP has reasearched and wants to have those choices then they aren't worthless to them.
I never thought I'd use my points outside of a DVC resort but lo and behold, I found I needed to last October for a hotel room at DLH. That said, if I was lookiing at a contract at AKV, I'd be looking resale also.

A resale will probably save you a whole lot more than $500. So the value of that gift card is moot. You have to compare what you are getting for buying direct versus what you are saving by buying resale. At this point in time the "full benefits" aren't worth the extra cost.

Those "full benefits" basically amount to Disney allowing you to pay more for their other options. Cruises are more expensive on points. Adventure by Disney is extremely point high.

When GF goes on sale, they will raise the price per point to the highest ever, give you a gift card of sorts (that won't cover the increased price), but if you want GF, you'll have to buy direct. Or use your points at 7 months out.

I see AKV being sold in the $60 resale. You pay $100 a point direct (just guessing on the direct price) for 100 points and you spend $4000 more. $500 versus $4000. Easy decision to make.

I couldn't agree more! Let's look at an example; For 100 points, AKV is $125 direct with a current incentive of $10 off per point plus a $500 gift card. So without closing costs, that is $11,000. A resale at $65 per point for those same 100 points without closing is $6500. This is a $4500 difference! Heck if you got the points for $60 per point, you could almost double your point total for the same price as buying direct.
The downside? Well, you have to wait 45-60 days to get your points, Disney might ROFR them (unlikely since they are still selling the resort), and you lose the opportunity to use the points for Disney collections et. al. (see above quote to find the real value of that member benefit). The most worrisome downside is Disney not allowing you to book other resorts besides your home, which you are buying if it is AKV!!

I think instead of worthless, it's better to say the choices are worth less.

.

I will suggest that a 100 point contract is not going to be enough points for many of the outside options. ABD travel is for the ultra-points-rich, and a 4 day cruise would probably eat up 3 years of points. I'm not saying don't do it, but 3 years of points for a 4 day trip?

Any ideas on when Grand Floridian goes on sale? I hope they have good incentives when it does.

GFV will probably start at $155-$175 with a small early buy-in discount, maybe a gift card. The prices will start high and go higher; they have a very small inventory to go through. I also contend that it will be a horrible investment, b/c at those prices and with the suggested number of points it will take 20-25 trips to start breaking even. It will be very interesting to see the rate of sales. I know some kiosk folks have told me that the GF DVC stand is the worst on site. One girl told me that she was stationed there for a week as "punishment" for being an hour late to work. Rich people who travel extensively with little concern towards budget, and who might visit WDW 2-3 times in their life are not the target market for DVC by any stretch.
