Any word on Spaceship Earth changes?

I was told before the rehab that there would be no changes to the ride vehicles. But I was hoping that maybe they at least widened the entrance for the vehicle that people transfer into.

So has anyone tried it yet?

I really don't know. I did ride it last Sunday night and saw many ECVs in the waiting area as we exited. I also saw them moving an electric wheelchair out of the way of the exit area where they had just had a guest transfer, but didn't see them transfer to note how difficult it was.

I had heard that there were going to be no changes made to the ride vehicles, other than adding a touch screen to the car. That seems to be what people who have ridden are reporting on threads on the Theme Parks Board. A number had mentioned that the same old cars were used, just 'updating' by adding the touchscreen. I wondered if the touchscreen would make it even harder to get in, but I haven't seen any pictures yet.

When we were at WDW in October, we did look at the old wheelchair waiting area and that had not really been changed. So, the 'where you board' at least looks the same.

I was hoping they would even make one or 2 cars more accessible during the rehab. This is the hardest ride vehicle for us to transfer our quadriplegic DS into and very uncomfortable for him to ride, but he still loves it. I hope the changes are worth the effort.
