Any WoC strategy for short people?

First of all, many thanks to HydroGuy and others who have complied such a comprehensive thread on WoC, educating the rest of us who haven't experienced it yet.

Finally, this weekend my son and I will be viewing WoC for the first time. As recommended, I have prepurchased picnic meals for the coveted FPs, but even with the FPs, I am concerned that being short (4'11"), I probably will have difficulty seeing anything. I'm used to that happening. However, if there is any way I can improve my odds of being able to see better, I would appreciate any tips/tricks/strategies. Thanks in advance.

When you get your tickets, figure out where it lines up. Get there early, like before the time listed on the FP. If your near the front, you shouldn't have a probably getting a spot at a rail. If you at the rail in your section the only people in front of you will be the lower tiered section below you and you're pretty golden.

The key is to know the map of where the color zones are and their entrances.

If you know what color you will be getting you can then see what tiers you can go into. Most people go strait to the water. The best view if from behind a railing in any tier, versus behind people on the closest tier.

And after studying the map to see the where the railing spots are, go check out the area earlier in the day before they close it off for the show. That way you will get a better idea of which area you want to try to go to when the mob is let in. And pick out a couple of spots so you have a plan B in case your first choice is filled up when you get there.

All excellent suggestions, guys. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

I will definitely scope out the entrances and get the lay of the land ahead of time and then have a back-up plan. But the railing is the goal. :thumbsup2

This is a great suggestion. When we saw WOC for the first time in July I took my whole crew down to the viewing area during mid-day and explained to them what would happen that night and told them what our strategy would be and what specific spots we were going to try to get to.

I also told them how we all need to work together to get a good spot and then to hold onto it (from people who come in much later and try to encroach).

In answer to the OP, your best bet IMO is to just dedicate the time to show up early and get a spot in the wet zone down in front at the rail where no one can get in front of you. And note that the wet zone is not always a wet zone. I have been twice in the wet zone and barely got wet at all. It depends on the wind strength and direction.

Other spots that people like is the bridge in the blue section and the spot near the hydrant by the VIP section - discussed in my superthread links.

Thanks, HydroGuy. I will try the wet zone by the rail, plus have a plan B. With it being warm this weekend, getting a little wet might be sort nice.

Yes, definitely scope out the area beforehand and have a game plan before you line up for your show. I suggest getting there at least 20 minutes prior to the return time on your ticket (although the CMs announce that they will not allow an official line to start until the actual return time, you will see a mob of people waiting around already).

I've watched WoC from a bunch of different spots (in the wet zone, in the Yellow section, in the Red section and in the Blue section). My favorite viewing spot is next to the rail on the handicap ramp in the Blue Section. Everyone always rushes to get as close as possible but I prefer standing back and enjoying a full view of the show.

The one time we stood in the wet zone, DBF and I got soaking wet and it was freezing. I suggest bringing/buying ponchos if you plan on viewing it from the wet zone, just in case (especially if you have different ones). Even though it may be warm during the day, the weather gets really chilly at night and you definitely don't want to get sick. Have a great time...WoC is an awesome show! :thumbsup2

If your in blue, I wouldn't recommend the wet zone area on the wooden decking. If your shorter the Yellow section that extends further out onto the water can block your view.
