Any Windows users try the new Safari Beta?

I was just wondering if anyone else here on the Dis has tried the new Public Beta 3.0 of Safari (which used to be Apple's built in web browser) that is now available for Windows. I've tried Firefox in the past and thought it was ok but always went back to Internet Explorer. I think with Safari I'm going to try and give it a good week of using it at home and see I end up switching back to IE.

btw, it's available here!

I installed it at work last week for testing (I'm a web developer). We couldn't get it to work with our proxy server, but we tested our own web site with it (which is all we needed to do anyway). I really liked it; will probably download it at home once it's out of Beta. I don't like to be a software guinea pig, and it's still a little buggy, plus several security vunerabilities were found in it.

Best of luck with it!

I wouldn't bother even trying it until its final release. So far its horrible and varies an extreme amount depending on the computer youre on.

They just released an update that addresses security issues; make sure you have the newest version.

Safari is faster than Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox and Netscape; it's also more secure and has a nicer interface.

I use it on my Mac and love it.

But, for the love of God, please don't use Internet Explorer! That thing has more holes in it than Swiss cheese!

I had the same problem with it at work in that it wouldn't operate behind our proxy/ISA server but so far at home it seems to be smooth sailing. The only issue I've had so far is not being able to display some characters wherein Windows it wasn't an issue (it was Japanese).

Granted I have a mac- but I can't use any other program now (not b/c I can't but b/c i don't want to). Safari is great

I happen to love swiss cheese!! I think I'll go cut some right now!

it's a little buggy on OS X as well. the primary reason Apple released it is for future 3rd party software design for the iPhone.

anything's better than IE, it's very slow and a horrible security risk.

Its not faster than Opera. Many independent tests has already disproven this statement made by Apple. Its also less secure than Opera. Safari 2 isn't even more secure than Opera let alone Safari 3. IE7 has patched a higher percentages of its flaws.

Not true...you can also have either Opera or Firefox as alternatives to Safari as your web browser!

I think they meant that they didn't use another out of choice :)

By the way, people on Macs looking for a browser other than Safari should look at Shiira (Safari rendering engine) or Camino (Firefox rendering engine) before considering Firefox itself or Netscape. Flock is an interesting Firefox variant which is great if you're a blogger or if you have a Flickr account (these features are built in). Opera is also an option, albeit a more professional one.

I'll take your word for it :)

I only use FireFox. I might try it once it gets out of beta. I also don't like being a guinea pig for any kind of software.
